Do the characters go on rides often?

my 3 year old LOVES alice and she just saw a picture of her riding in the tea cups and now keeps saying she wants to do that when we go to DL.

Im just wondering if they ever even do it. & if there are any secrets or tips on getting on a ride with a character. thanks!

IME, it's pretty infrequent that they do this. I have seen Mary Poppins on the carousel in Fantasyland once or twice, but that's about it. I think it's pretty random and I'm not sure there are any tips or tricks (but would love it if someone tells me that's wrong) - you will probably just have to hope for a happy coincidence! :)

I've seen Mary on the Carousel once, and I have seen Alice on the tea cups when we went in August. But it was a slow day and she didn't have a line. I suspect she did it for visibility as her area is a bit hidden.
You could always find out when she does musical chairs and try for that.

Wow, I've been to DL a gazillion times and have never seen a character on a ride.

We rode on the Carousel with Alice and the White Rabbit.:thumbsup2

Where is Mary's spot? DD3 has fallen in love with the movie and keeps reminding us that Mary Poppins is at DL (I showed her a pic from these boards that someone posted of them with MP).

We have ridden the carousel with Goofy before. We were already one and he climbed on last minute.

We were walking up to the Tea Cups at the same time as the White Rabbit. He took my daughter and niece by the hand and took them on the ride with him. It was one of the highlights of our trip. There was nothing we did except be in the right place at the right time.

(I'm trying to figure out how to post the pictures).

LOVE the pics w/ the White Rabbit!!! What a wonderful memory. :goodvibes

My parents have ridden w/ a character on Aladdin's Flying Carpets in WDW. It was during the Christmas party. I'm not sure of the character's name -- it was a creepy looking bear. :confused3 They also managed to ride w/ Goofy the same evening.

Those pictures are great!

I've never actually seen characters on rides, but I'd imagine it's more likely to happen during quiet periods.

As for Disneyland, it's much rarer than in the past.

Here's Alice and Mad Hatter on the Teacups. The Queen of Hearts, the Tweedles and the White Rabbit also took a spin in the past. Alice & Hatter even rode the Storybook Boats sometimes, as did Peter Pan. Here's a video of Cinderella & Snow White

The only "character on a ride" that seems to less than freakishly rare these days is Mary Poppins on the carousel.
