Just curious...

Can a female person be Mickey? Can a male person be Minnie? Can a male person be Peter Pan? :rotfl: j/k

I'm just wondering if WDW keeps the character and its actor the same gender. Anyone know?

I would guess that many of the characters are actually portrayed by females.

I believe a CM told us a few years ago that a woman almost always plays Mickey.

I'm not sure, but my sister went to college with someone who worked at WDW for a while and he played a few different characters while working there. When we were there in 1999, he didn't really put on costumes anymore but worked with the scheduling of the characters. I'm not sure if he still works there as she's no longer in touch with him.

I can't see many men able to wear the MM suit. Even a small framed woman would need to be quite stealth to be able to fit in the suit. With ears, Mickey stands just over 5'.

Yes, I had read that most of the shorter characters such as Mickey and Chip & Dale are portrayed by females.

I've actually been told by a few sources, all characters are played by males.

I hate to believe when Minnie gives me a hug that it's a guy, but I was told that.

Both genders do all of the roles. However, for the Queen of Hearts, that is often a male because the headpiece is so heavy. We were told that often a male plays Minnie. Next time you see Minnie, check out her calves--I've noticed they are usually pretty muscular, which is a pretty good give away. Guess you need to do KTTK tour and you'll find out more secrets.

Since women tend to be smaller, they thend to be the littler characters and men the bigger characters. Whoever fits the costume .

According to Disney policy, CM's are supposed to basically play dumb when asked questions regarding who "plays" characters.

Pesonally, I think it's great that they do that. I hate to think of someone inside those costumes.

For the fur characters, it's all hieght based. The shorter the character, the more likely the character friend is female and the taller the character, the more likely the friend is male. However, I do know one or two Goofy friends who are female and Mickey friends who are male. Pluto friends are about an even number of male vs female. Chipmunk friends are mostly girls, but I know a handful of guys.

And character friends can help any character in their hieghtrange. They are not limited to just one.

Face character friends are, of course, restricted to their proper gender, with the rare exception of Peter Pan who's friend can be female once in a blue moon, but only in parades.

I agree that I would rather think of the characters as THE CHARACTERS, but my curiosity gets the better of me at times.

One of my brother's friends (a male) used to "play" characters. All I know is that he said his favorite one to play was Tigger.

I know a man plays Tinkerbell when she flies around MK during Wishes. But that's because the person has to be a certain weight to glide across the sky properly.

When I was down there in August/Sept, I noticed Tink looked very manly when she flew over MK. She was definitely the size and build of a man. That was a little disturbing...:scared:

:rotfl2:

Well not for nothing, but early in the year during Wishes, we saw the Tinkerbell character & he looked like a small man. You guys know, the Tink that drops from the castle. I looked at my fiance & said; "that looks like a guy" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: & we both lost it laughing.

This is so weird, because I remember reading something about the very small gymnast woman that used to do it, finally retired. So wouldn't one think that they would find another small gymnast-type woman again? Or are men more likely to move faster due to the "men have less body fat" thing?

We were told by a CM on a tour that Tink could be no more than 95 lbs, so since must be a female. It is rear for males to be that small.
