We were going to tell our kids about Sept 2016 cruise for Christmas but then DH and I (mostly me) couldn't wait so we are going Feb 2016 with no kids.
We were thinking maybe the characters could help us tell the kids In some way or invite them back in a video? Kinda like a very personal character call we can show them when we get back?? Has anyone ever done this? Then on the other hand...Christmas is sooner lol
Fwiw this will be our second cruise and the sept will be our third (kids second)
Thanks!!

One time my parents were surprising us with a trip to WDW, and my sister and I were each given Disney character picture frames where the "picture" said something like "I'm looking forward to seeing you [dates] at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort!"

Given that the characters aren't allowed to speak, I don't really see how a video would work - unless you were going to do one of those obnoxious "videos" that should just be a blog entry because you're forced to read index cards for five minutes. And I don't know that they'd be allowed to do that without special arrangements for a private meet and greet (meaning MONEY) being made.

The characters don't speak (only face characters do) and any kind of personal time with them to do something special costs big bucks (about $300 per half hour). I would suggest doing something during Christmas to surprise them. You can do a basket with different cruise/vacation related items. You can find different items at www.disneyshopping.com

We surprised our kids with the Maiden Voyage of the Magic back in 1998 at Christmas 1997 with a certificate and t shirts that I had purchased at the DCL preview area on Main Street at the MK (they only had size XL lol!!)

And then all grown up and still enjoying DCL.....can't wait to bring the grandchildren onboard (two are having babies this summer!)

It's not visual, nor can it be personalized, but you could do a character call -- maybe combined with something for them to open. Time the call to occur when you give them the gift.

Enjoy your cruises!

No I wouldn't have them hold flash cards. I know only face characters can talk would obv have to be a princess or such that did the inviting but I guess I could see where it may be too time consuming during a meet and greet to do something like that. Guess we'll stick to Christmas:). Fine with me, this secret has been hard enough for the last couple months!! Lol

If it were me personally, I would just tell them. I am not especially into Pinterest type reveals.

But if you really want to do it like you mentioned, it needs to be super efficient and quick. For example, print one 8x11 sign and ask to take a picture of the characters holding the sign instead of getting a picture with them yourselves. Anything else would take up too much time/be too complicated.
