As a WDW regular and a DL newbie, which DL meet and greet characters are unique to DL? (Summertime, in park, not character meals). Thanks in advance!

Well, you'd really have to be expert at both to be sure of everyone that's in one but not the other.

2 are easy: Captain America and Thor

It seems to me that Bert and Mad Hatter are much less available for meet 'n greets at WDW

Genie used to be seen only rarely in Disneyland Park, but now often appears in Aladdin's Oasis.

The characters can really vary and we have come across many unique characters at DLR that we did not see at WDW... and vies versa at WDW.

One thing we have noticed at DLR that we didnt have at WDW is that the characters seem to be way more interactive.
Such as my husband being asked by Cruella de Vil to dance with him on Main Street. Awesome photo moment!!

I do know that a unique character interaction at DLR is the musical chairs with Alice and the Mad Hatter at Refreshment Corner on Main Street, USA.
We have also had some great interactions with Peter Pan and also Mary Poppins & Bert over in Fantasyland at DLR.

We have had great luck finding Jack Skellington and Sally in New Orleans Square, those interactions have been really fun.

Check out this fun article for tips:

in the Big Thunder Ranch area, you can see Mickey and Minnie (sometimes together), Goofy, Donald and Chip and Dale in western outfits -- the outfits make it unique.

Back there, we also saw some of the Country Bears, which might be unique to DLR.

We saw B'rer Bear there, too ... don't know how often he gets out at WDW.

And we saw the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland as well as Pinnochio on Main Street - I had never seen them at WDW, but I have only been to WDW twice.

hope this helps!
Have fun character hunting! :)

Edited to add: I think Flik from A Bug's Life is out in California Adventure ... never seen that myself, and again ... maybe he is normal in WDW.

Is Roger Rabbit available for Meet and Greets?
They had him out during MHP last year and he might have been out during the Spring Carnival, but he doesn't make regular appearances throughout the year, as far as I know.

Jack and Sally are (usually) only available for meet and greet in NOS while Haunted Mansion Holiday is up and running (so mid-September through New Year). I haven't seen them outside of those times.

Tweedle Dee and Dum are not a traditional meet and greet, but they will take photos with guests during Mad T Party in DCA. They're based on the Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland, so there nothing quite like them at WDW. Sadly, Alice and the Mad Hatter (part of the band) do not take photos with guests.

Some of the characters are seasonal

Roger Rabbit along with Thumper , Br'er Rabbit and Winnie the Pooh's Rabbit were recently out during Easter. Roger maybe out again, but only during MHP

Jack and Sally can be found only during HMH overlay

Captain Jack Sparrow only seams to be out during Halloween

Country Bears were out during Christmas, but have not been out since, but I do hope they return this summer.

There is Pixie Hallow, I am not sure they have a M&G in WDW

DCA may have more unique characters

Lighting McQueen , Mater and Big Red

Flick

The Incredibles
Sully and Mike

Mickey, Goofy and Chip n Dale in 1920's costumes

Fly Girl Minnie

Princess Sofia and Doc McStuffin this summer only. :-)

It's worth noting that while DHS does have a McQueen and Mater meet and greet, the "characters" at DCA are much more impressive. The last time I saw the ones at DHS, they were basically just statues. The ones at DCA actually "drive" out to the meet and greet location and then "interact" with the guests (they shake, rev their engine, talk, etc.). So if you're a Cars fan, I highly recommend heading to Carsland to meet McQueen or Mater. Red is over by Luigi's Tires.

I've read that Doc McStuffins is only available this summer, but I think Sophia might be a longer term meet and greet. She's been in DCA for a while now. Unlike at DHS, they're a regular meet and greet and not inside a restaurant.

In addition to Mickey, Goofy, and Chip & Dale, Donald is also available on Buena Vista Street in his 1920's outfit.

While not unique to DLR, I do think some of the villains are easier to find. I've seen Cruella, Captain Hook, the Evil Queen, and the Queen of Hearts wandering around the parks at random times. That is, however, the hard part about DLR. There aren't a lot of scheduled meet and greets, so finding some characters is a matter of luck (i.e., being the right place at the right time).
