I can't remember...does the RPR have a character meal? Isn't there one at the HRH? And if so, has anyone been there? How was it?

Hopefully someone will step in to confirm this info and to give you a review but this is what I was told when I called:

RPR - Mon, Tues, Thurs @ Islands Dining
PBH - Fri @ Trattoria del Porto
HRH- Sat @ Sunset Grill

There have been several threads on this topic if you page down...:D Some reviews have been good, others have said not to bother. We'll be there at the end of this month and I am still trying to decide. If we go I will write a review!

My family 2 adults and 2 boys, 6 & 10 yrs have been to the character meals at Hard Rock and Portofino. The one at Hard Rock just once the one at Portofino 2 times.

I would say it is well worth the experience one time. If you really enjoy it you can look forward to it again next trip. For us I think unless the characters are changed we wont be doing it again.

The kids really love the interaction and I got some wonderful pictures. We saw Woody, Scooby, Shaggy, Beetle Bailey and the Grinch. The Grinch was only there in December and he was at Portofino. It isnt anymore expensive (at least it wasnt when we went) than eating there on a night w/o the characters.

At Portofino they have a seperate kids area with a large screen TV and bean bags, also small table where they can eat if they like with crayons and coloring books. The characters spent a long time at the table and played with the kids as well. It wasnt just sign my book take a pic and leave. I suspect that would depend on the crowd.

Jessica - could you tell me a little more about your HRH Sunset Grille experience?

People who didn't like the character meal said they had to wait a long time for each of the characters to come to their table because there was only one character circulating at a time. My son loves Scooby so I would like to try Sunset but I don't want to wait a long time. Jack can only sit and wait for so long before he gets bored and then we are all miserable!;)

We've done lots of Disney character meals and have always had a really good time.

I would give the Sunset Grille a call directly if thats possible. If not, call the hotels concierge. They may be able to tell you what characters will be there and what characters are there now. When we first had a meal at Sunset Grille I loved it, so much so that we ate there quite a few times that vacation. I have been informed the chef changed and it just isnt the same. Things change so often it could be good again! Our character meal was 2 years ago so I am afraid any info I can give you would not be up to date! We were not there during a busy season and the restaurant was 1/2 full. So we didnt wait at all for the characters. We did order off the menu but they also had a buffet available. Not even sure if this is still the case. The kids meals were very reasonable. My son was 4 at the time and I know how waiting can seem forever to them!

One other hint...we were told to ask the hostess for a seat where the characters will most likely come to first. This has always helped us. Sorry I couldnt be of more help but do give a call they will be happy to tell you all they know.:)

I would love to hear if someone has experienced character dining at Islands at the RPR. We have reservations here for Mon. 6/23 at 6pm. Will the characters be roaming then and which ones?
