Hi everyone! I have been out of town the past few days, and I'm not caught up on everything yet (am I ever?? :scared1: ), but I wanted to get this posted.

I am going to have to change the sign-up date--I hope that's ok! We are going to be out of town for DH's birthday the weekend I planned to do it. I am going to change it to next Sunday (March 29th) so that we can get it signed up for before Easter. I hope that works for everyone!

I'm on Eastern time, and I plan to have it posted around 7 a.m. or so. If you won't be around that day, or if you are on a different time zone and don't want to get up before the crack of dawn, let me know and I can try to find you a sign-up buddy!

Please feel free to ask any questions you have about this or point out anything that's unclear or missing in the directions! :thumbsup2 I hope you all are as excited about this one as I am!!

This is the Character Dining Swap! YAY! Please note. . .this swap is designed to be about the DINING EXPERIENCE where you can meet the character—not about an individual character. For example, if you pick “Crystal Palace”, your topper should say, “Crystal Palace”, not “Pooh”. Your element, though, could be a photo mat with Pooh or Eeyore or Tigger or Piglet on it, though. . .or it could just have a flower, like the entry way. I know this is a little confusing—feel free to ask questions, since I can’t seem to explain in words what I mean!

Because the swap calendar is so busy at this time of year, I’d like to do this as elements only. I will be happy to host a completed pages one later on (maybe when the calendar is a little lighter). Is that ok with y’all?


Sign Up MARCH 29th (Sunday—approx 7 a.m. EASTERN TIME)
Mail Date is MAY 23rd (a slight change from the calendar).
Due date is MAY 30th (that is when I need to receive your package. I will wait one week to return them just in case someone‘s doesn‘t arrive on schedule). If I get them earlier I'll send them out earlier!

1. Choose a restaurant with an open slot. I am starting with one group of 4 swappers per restaurant.
2. Select two elements. Each element should be embellished 1-2 different ways (see note at the bottom).
3. PM me with your DIS name, name and address.
4. Post your status on the Progress thread - which will be posted after the slots are filled. I will do check-in dates every 2 weeks. I will pm you if you do not check in. If you don’t respond within 48 hours of the pm, I will angel your spot. Just let me know if you’re going to be out of town during a check in and I’ll take care of that! May is a crazy time at work for me, so I can’t wait until the very end to find angels. Please let me know if you need one as early as possible!
5. Check the progress thread for your status - it will be updated with ship info and received info.
6. PM me if you have problems and need to drop out or if an emergency happens (we all know things happen beyond our control sometimes), let me know so we can make arrangements for an angel or other help if needed.
7. HAVE FUN!!

NOTE: YOU CAN PICK WHATEVER ELEMENTS YOU WANT, BUT SOMEONE IN THE GROUP MUST DO A TOPPER (there can be more than one topper. . . I just don’t want all 4 people signing up for a topper! ;) )


Ok - here are the elements to choose from (if you have another idea for an element, let me know and I will add it).

Element Selection:
Please, no hand lettering on any items, use computer fonts, rub-ons,
stamps, etc.
Embellished means using brads, eyelets, charms, ribbon, 3D stickers
(matted stickers are okay too),embossing, stickles, skittles, etc.

Element Selection:
Photo Mat – 1PP to fit a 4x6 photo, double matted and embellished.

Topper – 1PP double matted and embellished OR TITLE LETTERS at least 1 ¼ inch with shadow. If you do the letters, please let me know what it spells. You can do the traditional 8 x 2 topper OR you can do a topper/signage piece (welded letters, etc.) It’s up to you!

Borders – 1 set PP (2 borders) double matted and embellished

Journaling Box: 2PP at least a 3x3 writing area, double matted and
embellished with actual journal area placed on top of the two mats


Tag: 1 PP large tag 4.5-5 inches, 2 pp if smaller, double matted and
embellished, include either ribbon/fiber or eyelet/brad in the hole. May
include both....

Embellished Shapes/Squares: 4PP @ 1-1/2x1-1/2 or larger if you wish, double matted and embellished. These can be circles, squares, flowers, etc. be creative. If it is a shape that would not look right double matted please use your best judgment.....Just
make up for it in another way. Maybe make a few extra or throw in
something extra.

Slide Mounts: 2PP be creative here please

File Folders or Matchbooks: 1 PP if medium size or lager, 2 pp if the smaller sized. Please make sure to enclose a blank page in the matchbook if this
is the element you choose to do.

Bottle Caps: 4PP if metal, 6PP if paper

Library Pocket and Tag: 1PP embellished, no smaller than to hold 2x3 a tag
that should have ribbon/fiber or eyelet in the hole

Shaker Box: 1PP be creative please

Paper Piecing: 1PP be creative please

License Plate: 1PP be creative please

Signage/Bookmark: 1PP 2x6, double matted and embellished

Song/Lyric/Poem: 1PP, double matted and embellished

Altered CD cover: 1PP be creative please

Altered letter: matted at least 4 inches

Altered Paper Clips: 3 large size ones

PP = Per Person
A Final Note: This swap is a huge commitment of time and money for everyone involved as it takes a significant amount of both to create all of the pages and elements. Having said that, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not sign up for more than you can handle. It is not fair to me or the other participants to expend the time and money to make something for someone who does not reciprocate. We all want everyone to enjoy swapping but we also want you to think about what you are getting into when you sign up.

Last but not least, HAVE FUN! I know we all stress about our work and that is OK. The important thing to remember is that you just need to make something you would be proud to have in your own albums and everyone will love it. If you get stumped or have a question, anyone on here would be happy to help; all you have to do is ask.

I know there have been questions about specialty paper, welded letters, etc., being part of embellishment. The “official SIOH statement” on this ;) is : LOVE WHAT YOU MAKE!! If you LOVE WHAT YOU MAKE, then I KNOW I’ll LOVE WHAT YOU MAKE, and everyone else will too!! :) My style is different than a lot of people’s style, and the differences in all of our styles is what makes our swaps so great!!

1. Yep, you've got it! It's sort of like the super sports swap, but with restaurants instead of sports!

2. Yes, each person will make 2 elements, so you'll get 8 elements back (including your 2) for each restaurant you sign up for. If you're like me, I have tons of pics from each one, so they'll probably be used!!

3. Definitely!! I really like the ATC's, and I think they would be pretty on the page! I'll add them to the list this afternoon!

Good idea!! For the elements other than toppers/signage, it would probably be a good idea to know which character, if you already know. I know that sometimes, people use all of the characters from that restaurant (on embellished squares, for instance), and that would work, too! :thumbsup2

We had Thanksgiving at Liberty Tree and I was sooooo glad to get in! I'll be up at 7:00 am on Sunday for sure!
 
OMG! i just opened this up to read it and i want a spot in a bunch of groups. we did a bunch of character meals on our last trip. Oh boy. What's a girl to do???
 
Is this swap one you do often? I mean, I'd like to get the other one under my belt before I take on too much, but this is my favorite part of Disney. No matter what separate ways we go during the day, we always meet back for a character meal together. Now I'm torn....what to do, what to do.
I will have any pieces I sign up for done and done on time, that's just who I am. But, I'm a little worried that I'm a newbie and you all haven't seen my work yet. :confused3

No one is going to judge your work:thumbsup2 We usually do this one once a year -- if you are interested and you have the time, go ahead and sign up. The groups are small in this one.
 
I really want t do this but don't know if I can. Shipping is going to be a killer in May (I have 2 other swaps due too). I will probably sit this one out even though it is going to be hard. I can't wait to see what everyone makes!
 
I think to be on the safe side I will do the Epcot/Newbie swap first and hope that maybe we could do this again in six months or so? That way those who are in a couple swaps in May could maybe participate if they wanted to. Just a thought. Don't want to over-do it with my first swap, but not joining is going to be torture!
 
I have been trying to decide between this swap and the Epcot newbie swap and I have way more character dining pics so I'm in! Can't wait to get started. :banana:

This could potentially be a huge undertaking for you if you end up having to open new groups as they fill. Are you planning to do that at all? I thank you in advance for hosting. :flower3:

ohana 4--I am planning to open groups as one fills. Probably no more than 2 per restaurant, but we'll see how that goes.

Just wanted to say have fun with this! Im sure I will be scraplifting alot of great ideas. The WDW trip is almost done and I dont need a thing (same as the resort swap!) and I have the DL swap to keep me very busy!:)
