Hi all,

I'm a DVC member who will be spending one night at The Grand Californian in July. I have two teen boys and our friends have a 1 year old and were inquiring about character breakfasts. We have done several at WDW but I don't know anything about those available in CA. Any information about various ones, the characters involved , location, food qulaity etc would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

There are about 5 total- lots less than WDW-

DL- Pooh Breakfast- about 20 bucks- Just has the main Pooh Characters- I believe its a buffet- Ill be heading for the first time this July-

DCA- Ariel's Grotto (Lunch/Dinner)- about 15 bucks- Ariel and a few classic characters (goofy, chip/dale etc have been spotted) Its a set menu/set price where ya choose one thing from each category

Resorts-
Grand-Storytellers-(Breakfast) about 20 bucks- Usually just Chip and Dale- Buffet or a menu

DL Hotel-Goofy's Kitchen (All) about 20 bucks- Wide range of characters- Buffet (my favorite)

Paridise- Minnie and Friends (Breakfast) about 20 bucks- Minnie and a few rotating main characters-I believe also a buffet-

At the DLH the food is just okay. They have many characters such as Aladin, Jasmine, Goofey, Pluto, Chip and Dale , Alice, Belle, Blue(the bear sp?), Snow White, Mini. The characters all came around to the table. We took a ton of pictures. The kids and adults had a great time. It was my DD 4th birthday. Disney went above and beyond. Then they often do. Oh yes, the characters also do a dance with the kids and adults if you wish (macarana).

At the GC we ate @ the character breakfast. It is possible to order off a menu or buff. what ever you choose. They only had Chip and Dale. The characters stayed by the hostess desk in the front. I thought the food was better but not the character interaction.

The PP has Mini's kitchen. Again use the menu or buff. Food was okay. When I say okay, I mean not bad at all. Mini, Goofey, Max and Adladin. The kids get called out to do the limbo. It' makes for a great photo. My DD loved this.

I have not gone inside the park for the same. If your celebrating a b-day or something tell the hotel or CM. They are sure to make a big deal of the event. I just love these meals. Don't forget your autograph book and camera for all the great pictures that you will get. In the park you have to wait in long lines to get these. Good luck!

I would opt for Goofy's Kitchen. It's a buffet so your teen boys can eat their fill. Plus, it has the most characters which should please the 1 year old.

If you go for lunch it is cheaper than dinner plus you usually get both the breakfast and dinner selections.

We really loved the breakfast at the Plaza Inn in Disneyland. It opens a 1/2 hour before rope drop. So the park opened at 10, and we were let in early for breakfast at 930. We were the first there and got a picture with all the pooh characters together, Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger. We also got pics with Mary Poppins, Pluto, and Max (Goofys son). There was a ton of food. Omlette bar with lots of choices, hot crepes with fresh fruit and berry toppings and whipped cream, french toast, Mickey waffles, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, croissants and other breakfast breads and danishes, lots of fresh fruits and melons, scarmbled eggs, potatoes, etc. You also got your own drinks which had 3 different juices, choc and white milk cartons, hot cocoa, tea, coffee and sodas. The food was fabulous and fresh. And the character interaction was wonderful. Even though we took our pictures before getting food, they each came to our table at least 2 more times and just sat down and goofed around with my husband and I. And we didnt even bring the kids this time! If you do it I HIGHLY reccommend the earliest priority seating time so you can be first too. It really made a wonderful experience!

Do the other characters you mentioned stay out in the lobby like Ariel?

I've never eaten there, but you can see the dining area from outside and I think they all (except Ariel) wander around. I saw Goofy sit down at someone's table the other day.

Not from the pictures Ive seen- Ariel stays at the entrance (naturally) but the others wander around :)

That's right. While Ariel stays in the one spot the Minnie and Goofy and Pluto (all dressed in a nautical theme) wander about. They also bring out some musical instruments and drums every so often and get a conga line going.

This really is a great character lunch. My whole family loved it. The food was decent, but it wasn't that expensive (family of 4 came to less than $70 for lunch). And the setting next to Paradise Pier really can't be beat.

But if you are thinking of this for lunch, do make reservations. Even on days you don't think it will be busy.
