Our first full day at DLR is a Saturday in July (arrive late the day before) - we will have DAP's so will be blocked out of the parks that day.

I thought (to get our first Disney fix) that booking a character meal in one of the hotels would be a good idea and wondered which one - quite fancy Storyteller's or Goofy's Kitchen - which one for our first ever DLR experience? Also to secure a ps - do I have to ring exactly 60 days before or can I leave it a couple of weeks to do all my ps's at once? - we are staying for 2 weeks you see.

I thought maybe a good time might be around 9am after all the early crowd has set off for the parks - do you agree? We will be up early that day and probably be ready for bed again shortly after lunchtime :rotfl: due to the big time difference between California and the UK. My plan is to eat breakfast, go back to the hotel to unpack and chill around the pool for the rest of the day.

Where going to be there In late june:cool1: and was wondering the same thing. We paln On just doing one chacter Breakfast and adding to the question is there one that has better food?.
Op,why can you not go to the park? If you are a AP meber you have black out days?:confused3

Yeesh, I missed the fact that you are blacked out the Sat... thought you meant the day you arrived... obviously cant do Minnies then that day :( I still like Goofy's kitchen though and the food is pretty good and it is a fun place :)

Goofy's Kitchen, definitely (though it is not inexpensive by any means). Goofy's has a wide variety of food from which to choose and classic characters - although Storytellers Critter Breakfast has menu orders as well as a small buffet, so that may be more to your liking. The Critter Breakfast is nice and woodsy/cozy, but the menu orders are on the costly side for what you get, so keep that in mind - the buffet is actually a bit of a better deal! There is also Surf's Up with Mickey and Friends in the PPH, which appears to have Daisy Duck - a rare character - among others, and is the only one where you can find Mickey.

We have our own dedicated Character Meal Photo thread, so enjoy the wonderful photos. Tons of Minnie & Friends photos, as well as Goofy's, Storytellers, etc. can be found in this thread:

Check out posts #338 and #339 from Disneynerd420's Trip Report, and scroll all the way down - you will get an idea of exactly what kinds of food you will find at Goofy's and what a variety there is:

Thanks

Looks like it will be Goofy's - to start off with anyway. Do you think Storyteller's would be a better option for a lunch or a dinner later on in our vacation and do they have characters at lunch and dinner also. I also wondered whether any of the character meals needed a credit card deposit (as some of the more popular ones do at WDW)

Thanks

Storytellers only has the Critter Breakfast - they don't have characters for lunch or dinner. However, it is a very nice place to eat lunch or dinner (in fact, I prefer it as a non-character restaurant than as a character meal). How long is your trip to DLR? Yes, you could work Storytellers in at some later point in the vacation - in fact, since it is located in the GCH, it could be on a day when you are not in the parks, or maybe are finished with the parks for the day.

You don't need to put down a deposit for the character meals unless you get vouchers or something in advance. Otherwise, you will make the reservation and then when you show up at your designated time, you will pay before being seated (at Goofy's, for example) because it's all buffet and everyone has to pay the same price for adults or kids. But if you do the character breakfast at Storytellers, you don't have to pay before being seated because you have the option of ordering from the menu OR getting the buffet. (Again, the buffet is a better deal than the menu because, even though the buffet has a limited selection, it is more cost effective than ordering a separate plate of something or other off of the menu.)

If you are pretty sure that you are going to Goofy's Kitchen on your first day, then I suggest you make a PS as soon as you hit 60 days prior. Since you are there in July during peak season, it would be best to make a PS early in order to ensure that you get the date and time that you want. Disney is very accommodating and they don't mind if you need to change/cancel later.

I've only been to GK and Minnie & Friends and I think the food at GK is way superior to M&F. M&F serves more cafeteria style food, whereas GK as a much bigger selection and the food generally tastes better.
