Characacter Breakfast at Chef Mickeys or Cape May Cafe

We will be staying at the BCV in January and are trying to decide whether to do the character breakfast at Cape May or Chef Mickeys. Obviously, Cape May will be easier because we can walk from our room in the morning. However, we have heard many positive reviews about Chef Mickeys so we are considering having breakfast there. We will have a car so getting there will not be too difficult. Does anyone have experience with either of these? Is it worth the drive for Chef Mickeys. We will be with our 2 year old. Thanks.

I'd pick Cape May hands down.

Chef Mickey's was one of the worse meals we had during on trip. The food was cold, there was food spilled and splattered all over the buffet area, there were empty spots on the buffet the entire meal, the service was horrible, the characters breezed by our table stopping only long enough for a single picture and Mickey skipped our table. So we will not be going back for a very long time.

Cape May on the other hand was fabulous! The food was hot and fresh each morning (we ate there twice due to over sleeping for Boma), they had a better selection of foods, the service was great and the character interaction was the best we had all week. It quickly made our must do list.

Cape May has always been our favorite...until we had breakfast at Chef Mickeys and it edged it out of first place!

Both are excellent places but if I was already staying at BC I would just eat there because of convenience and eat at Chef Mickeys another trip when I was staying closer to the CR

Chef Mickey's is a bit of an experience first thing in the day. I really like Cape May and would be hard pressed to justify and earlier rise to make it up to the Contemporary for breakfast.

Should you choose to go to Chef Mickey's and didn't want to drive, you can take the bus to the Magic Kingdom and walk to the Contemporary. You could then tour a bit in the MK, monorail to Epcot, tour there a bit and then walk out the back to your hotel or take a Friendship Boat. This is a favorite touring day plan of mine when I'm staying in the Crescent Lake area.

I think Cape May is a very nice breakfast. We stay at YC/BC/BCV most of the time and it's not only convenient, the food stations are not hectic, the restaurant is the quietest of all of the character meals we have done and the character interaction is always very good. Minnie is a little more shy but you practially have to force Donald and Goofy to leave your table.

Both are very good & yet both are very different. Cape May is probably the most calm/relaxed character meal in WDW. The character interaction is excellent - they seem to spend an extraordinary amount of time interacting with us. The only drawback to Cape May, IMO, is there are only 3 characters there: Minnie, Goofy & Donald in swimwear.

At Chef Mickey's, however, you get to see the Fab 5: Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald & Pluto. Chef Mickey's has a fun/upbeat atmosphere - the characters will dance around to music & encourage the patrons to wave napkins over their heads. We've had good character interaction at Chef Mickey's - not as extensive as Cape May, but we've never felt rushed. I think the food at both places is pretty good.

I am putting in my vote for Cape May. We were there in Sept for the character breakfast and it was so much fun---great character interaction and fabulous food. we had a lovely server who added to the fun atmosphere.

I second this. If I were staying at BC I would go to Cape May. We loved it there!

We have done both and prefer Cape May. It is worth one fewer character in our opinion. It is much more relaxed and calm. The characters seem to spend more time and the food is better.

I love both soooooo much but I definitly think breakfast at Chef Mickey's would be more special. I love Cape May alot but more when it's dinner time and they have all the seafood out. haha

Another vote for Cape May.

Our recent experience at CM was horrible. The food wasn't good, our service was terrible, and for once, the characters got to us faster than our waiter.

The characters were wonderful even though Mickey was in and out faster than you could blink an eye.

I had dietary restrictions (I'm allergic to black pepper) and had to see the chef. There was nothing on the buffet that I could have (not a shocker really - pepper is so common), instead, he prepared something for me. He slapped 2 pieces of chicken on the grill and threw them on top of some greens. It was personally my worst meal. When the chef was discussing my options, they way he talked at me made me feel like I was wasting his time (that DID NOT happen anywhere else on property). I barely touched my food. The food on the buffet was sub-par for Disney standards, standard issue mac and cheese, rubbery pizza, fries, etc.

From start to finish, our dinner took 2 hours and 45 minutes. The last 35 minutes was waiting on our bill.

CM used to be a must for us, but I don't think we'll be going back again.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. I think we will plan on Cape May unless we end up staying at BLT. We'll try Chef Mickeys when we are staying closer. The relaxed atmosphere of Cape May sounds good. Our first character breakfast was at the Animal Kingdom and although it was exciting, we found it stressful to make sure we has our food before the characters came. My wife missed Mickey when she was in line. We had no time to get food before the characters were at our table.

I really didn't like Chef Mickey's.. too loud, too crowded, too everything! I would definitely go with Cape May.

Cape May for sure. Chef Mickey's has gone downhill. We didnt enjoy it at all. The character interaction is better at Cape May. They spend more time at each table

Cape May without a seconds hesitation. The food at Chef Mickey's has well and truly gone downhill as of late.

CMC was by far a much nicer experiance. The food was better, the atmoshphere was not as "congested" and it was not rushed. The only thing that CM has that makes us look twice is the "fab" five.
