I have seen lots of picture books based on the Disney movies, but haven't seen many books for older kids. Do you know of any chapter books for "big kids" (3rd-6th graders)?

I have seen the Kingdom Keepers series. Are there other chapter books that take place in WDW? It would be so fun for my kids to read stories whose characters visit Disney World!

Thanks for your help. :)

:) The original 101 Dalmations is a downright phenomenal chapter book. It has different names for the puppies and really goes into how Pongo and Misses look for the puppies. There is also a liver spotted dalmation named Perdida ( I think) who helps out Misses and eventually finds her family too. Terrific story for that age I think.

In fact I think I will try to find it on ITunes.

Not on Itunes but worth a look. My favorite puppy is Cadpig, the runt, she loves television--Mr. Darling rubbed her with a towel when she was born to help her breathe. When they are rescued and spend the night in a church...Cadpig finds the manger scene on the alter...and thinks it is the most beautiful TV ever. :thumbsup2

It's not involving Disney World, per se, but a great Disney series of chapter books is the Percy Jackson series, my DS7 couldn't put them down, he read all of them in the first series and now is exploring the rest of the authors works via his school library, he loves them. I'm hoping Disney decides to incorporate something from Percy Jackson into WDW at some point.

Googling "Disney Chapter Books" gave me this link

We are working on dd's love for reading and books about her favorite characters help, so I've been on the hunt for these before.

She's been mostly in early chapter books (100 or so pages, large print, some pictures).

She enjoys the Disney Fairy series published by Random House. Target carries them, although when I got hers they were on clearance, so I'm not sure what they have now.

We are working our way towards some more difficult ones (smaller print, more pages) and I actually found some in the $1 bin at Target. They had Peter Pan, but that is the one I bought. I can't remember what else they had.

My kids are reading The Kingdom Keeper series right now (and Harry Potter series too). The same author wrote Peter and the Starcatchers series. It isn't about WDW per se...But I believe the premise is that it is about Peter Pan before he becomes Peter Pan. Wendy is in it and the mermaids and the lost boys, etc. My son loved those ones too. I would say reading level is likely 6- 7th grade.

I don't know of any other Disney chapter books but my DD LOVES the Kingdom Keepers books. She just got the Shell Game. She was so anxious to get it since it takes place on the Dream (we went on the Dream in Dec).

Not a chapter book, bu my DD( LOVES the Disney Fairy Manga books. I don't get the appeal of reading backwards, but she loves them.

If anyone else is looking, I found The Mystery at Disney World, by Carole Marsh. It's set in WDW, and is about 4 kids who go through the park by themselves, and get kidnapped one by one. Not quite as scary as it sounds, but it was a good conversation-starter about safety!

DS13 has read and enjoyed all of the Kingdom Keeper and Peter and the Starcatcher series books. :thumbsup2I am thinking he started them in 4th grade, but not positive.

DD9 does enjoy reading the Tinkerbell/ Fairies chapter books. (Not the easy reader books.) Those are at the lower end of the level you are looking for (I'm guessing around 3rd grade, no higher). They're not anything special, but if you have a Fairy fan they might be worth checking out.
