Chapter Books - DS9

Magic Tree House books

Chronicles of Narnia series (Lion Witch and the Wardrobe, etc.)

Jigsaw Jones books

The Percy Jackson series is awesome. My DS10 is reading the 5th one. They. are long books, im not sure about the reading level, but he loves them.

Series of Unfortunate events is a good one, easier reading level.

Here's another vote for the Magic Treehouse series.

Depending on his reading level, my son also liked anything by Joan Lowery Nixon at that age. Goosebumps were another favorite series.

DD likes the Magic Tree House series

For christmas they got the series from How to train your dragon.

Wimpy kids seems to sell really well at the book fair when I have it.

Depending on the reading level Percy jackson series is good.

This - even dd9 LOVED the Percy Jackson series (we had them, because ds12 LOVED them). All of my kids loved the Wimpy kids series.

FYI

For those that liked the Percy Jackson series the Author Rick Riordan has a new series the first book is The Lost Hero. Some of the characters are from Percy Jackson series.

my son likes the capital mysteries books by ron roy they take place all over washington DC -- quick read -- Diary of a wimpy kid is a BIG HIT with everyone in our house, A-Z mysteries by ron roy, how to eat fried worms by Thomas Rockwell. I should check my sons kindle -- he has a ton of books on there -- he cant get enough.

My DS9 likes Captain Underpants, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Geronimo Stilton.

Here are DS9's favorite series:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Mysterious Benedict Society
Percy Jackson
Gregor the Overlander
Ranger's Apprentice
Harry Potter

My DD8 loves "The Puppy Place" series by Ellen Miles. It's about a family who fosters puppies until they find their "forever home." There are a ton of books in this series and they're the perfect length for his age. I know puppy books sound a little girly but I think they are good for a boy or girl.

All of the ones mentioned are great, although depends on reading level. My sons are both high level readers; my 7 year-old has already finished the Wimpy Kids books although I think they still grab the interest of most 8-9 year olds. Neither of my kids liked the Magic Tree House books.

The only ones that I can think of that haven't been been mentioned here are the Gordon Korman series that includes Zoobreak, 39 Clues, 100 Cupboards, and Nathan Abercrombie, Accidental Zombie. If your son is into sports, there are also a ton of sports fiction books by Matt Christopher. My 9 year old DS did not like the 39 Clues but I know a lot of his classmates do. He is just starting on The Lost Hero, he LOVED the Percy Jackson series.

My 10 year old nephew loved the Artemis Fowl series as well as the Percy jackson series. I think he was 9 when he started the books.

My son was obsessed with Harry Potter from when he picked them up in third grade until she stopped writing them! If he is into that sort of book - I would definately second Narnia, Percy Jackson. Series of Unfortuate events, the Redwall books, the Dragon series - Inkwell is one - can't think of the author, also Jenny Nimmo books.

My daughter is eight and LOVES animal stories - so she loves the Warrior cat clan books - the author is Erin Hunter. There are a bunch of them - I think she's read about 30 in the last year, including some smaller cartoon type ones, depending on reading level. She also loves a Wolf series and Guardians of Gahoole and Animal Ark books.

The Warriors series by Erin Hunter is both of my kids favorite series. They're 12 & 13 and have been reading them for several years now.

Repeating several that have been mentioned, with a few new ones thrown in:

Magic Tree House if he is behind grade level - they are mainly 2-3 grade reading level

Percy Jackson series - great series, DD11 still reads them over and over again for fun - 4-5 grade level

Series of Unfortunate Events - about a 3rd grade level?

Harry Potter series - reading levels range but the first two are probably about a 4th grade reading level

The Lost Hero - Rick Riordan

The Red Pyramid - Rick Riordan

The Phantom Tollbooth

Inkheart series - Cornelia Funke

39 Clues - easy reads for a 9 year old, but still fun

Anything by Margaret Peterson Haddix (the Shadow Children series, also the Missing series)

The Simon Bloom series

Anything by Andrew Clements

The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke (5th-6th grade reading level)

Maybe the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson (if he is an advanced reader)

Peter and the Starcatchers Series (Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson)

Kingdom Keepers series (Ridley Pearson)

Series of Unfortunate Events - 13 books
How to Train Your Dragon Series - 10 books
Magic Treehouse (depending on reading level) - 45+ books
Percy Jackson

These three series may be on the easier side of 9.
The Baseball Card Adventures series by Dan Gutman (i.e. Babe and Me).
Dragon Slayer's Academy (easier chapter books)
Magic Shop Series

Mike Lupica also writes sports books.

My DS9 loves to read and loves many of the books/authors/series mentioned already. A couple that I don't see tmentioned that he got for Christmas and has really enjoyed are:

My Side of the Mountain
The Far Side of the Mountain (sequel)
Encyclopedia Brown series

Guardian's of GaHoole series
Chronicles of Narnia
Little House on the Prairie
Molly Moon series
The Magic Shop series
Septimus Heap
