Chapped!!!

I like Vaseline for this sort of thing. I use it on my lips, put it on noses when a sniffle is coming on and even rub it on my hands before bed to soften as I sleep. The only trick with Vaseline is to rub off excess but after that, its the best stuff around IMHO

I use Neosporin ointment not the lip balm but the antibiotic ointment.

It cures chapped lips very quickly :)

When I was on Accutane in my early 20s, my lips were constantly chapped and peeling.

My dermatologist recommended the Vaseline (in a tube, for lips). Anything with medication in it (like Blistex) can be physically addictive in that you HAVE to keep using it or your lips will be worse than ever.

Ok, this will sound weird but Penaten diaper cream. My kids get chronically chapped lips all winter and I put it all around the outside of their lips (just not right into where they open their mouths) at bedtime. In the morning they are completely healed and healthy looking. We wash it off and put regular lip balm on for the day.

I also use it around noses when they get all chapped from a cold and constant nose-blowing. Same thing - put it on at night and it's healed in the morning.

I know the OP has gotten a lot of great suggestions, but I just wanted to chime in that Chicken Poop is great! Don't know if it will heal severely chapped lips, but I love my tube of Chicken Poop! (also get mine at Tractor Supply!).

My DH has severely chapped lips, so I'm going to suggest he try the Aquafor. I have some, just never thought about using it on the lips! His bottom lips splits in the fall and never heals until summer, poor guy :guilty:

Another vote for Aquaphor - and drinking lots of water.

Vaseline works great, but as a treat to myself I prefer to use Kiehl's. When I left CA Kiehl's was not available in Arkansas so I bought about 10 tubes to take with me. I keep it everywhere.

Try Aquaphor. Our Dd's lips were badly chapped earlier this Winter and we've been using Aquaphor and it's really helped. It will take a couple of days for it to really get working since your lips are already chapped, but after that, you should be ok if you use it on a regular basis.

Aquaphor is the *only* thing that works for me anymore.

I had extreemly chapped lips last winter. I went to the dermotologist. He did allergy testing and prescribed a cream that worked wonders.

In the mean time, he forbade me to use anything on my lips except Vaseline. So, another vote for Vaseline. I had trouble finding the sqeeze tubes and finally found them at the Dollar Tree.

365 days a year...I am never without my chap stick. If I head out of the house for the day and I have forgotten it...I will stop and buy one. I never have chapped lips!

Take a warm, wet washcloth and gently rub the dead skin off. Then apply Vaseline before bedtime.

I was going to suggest something similar. You need to gently exfoliate the dead skin off first. A soft bristled tooth brush would work. I actually have a satin lips set from Mary Kay that I use. One tube is an exfoliater and the other tube is a protectant. I really like blistex satin lips or the blistex in the white tube with CoQ10. I am addicted to lip gunk, lol! All year round:thumbsup2 I keep a tube of it by my bed, in both vehicles, my purse, the side table where I sit to watch TV and in the kitchen. And my kids know not to touch or use Mom's lip gunk :rotfl:

Im also addicted to sunglasses. I wear those year round, too!

I also agree with Aquaphor 100%... my daughter had chapped lips that seemed to spread to her face. Someone recommended it to me - it worked like a charm. I always keep a tube in the house.

Not sure if anyone said it, but when the kids get bad chapped lips I use Neosporin. It heals, moistens and makes them stop hurting.

actually I was goign to mention this before and didn't, but I do have the satin lips set. It feels great when I use it (at night) but then the next day they are chapped again by the afternoon.

I appreciate everyone's great suggestions!! I am making myself drink some water right now because quite obviously that's the root of the problem. I put some olive oil on my lips last night as someone suggested here--it felt great!!

I'll try to drink a ton of the water the next couple days and use the temporary topical lip solutions, and see what happens!

Neosporin has a lip balm in a pot that worked wonders for DD last year when she was sick, feverish & a chapped mess.

THIS! :thumbsup2

Also, Mary Kay has something called satin lips. It comes with a tube of stuff to help buff off the dead/dry skin and then a cream/moisture gloss to put on after. LOVE it! (And it's not expensive either)
