The Orland Passholder stated "Walt Disney World Insider tells me that due to an incident involving an Argentinian Tour Group at the Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World has taken action for the safety and enjoyment of other guest in the parks."

I for one am happy about this.

The brief report from the Orlando passholder is below:

http://orlpassholder.com/2015/09/breaking-chanting-no-longer-allowed-at-walt-disney-world/

Is it just me, or given the mess Argentina is in right now, was it really a tour group from that country (who there can still afford to travel?) that crossed the line or was it the more commonly seen Brazilians?

Whatever, given the report contents, this is definitely just a rumor as this point. I agree that a huge percentage of WDW guests who have unfortunately experienced the Latin American tour groups would welcome a crack down not just on their chanting but likely also bans on some of the tactics their tour group leaders use (abruptly mobbing fast pass returns) or tolerate from the groups they are leading (unruly behavior in queues, swarming walkways, etc.)

What was the specific action? The thread title you posted implies there is now a ban on "chanting," but your post includes no details. I suspect this would be challenging (at least initially) to enforce.
This has actually always been a "ban" on chanting but like you said it's hard to enforce and is essentially up to the cast member to control the issue of it is one.

From Orlando Passholder's FB page:

"Our Server has been Experiencing Issues since I posted this article, Here is the article text..

In a Breaking turn of events, a Walt Disney World Insider tells me that due to an incident involving an Argentinian Tour Group at the Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World has taken action for the safety and enjoyment of other guest in the parks.

This is a move that a lot of Walt Disney World guest have cried out for a while now, however I should point out that nothing official has come out about from Walt Disney World to us yet, but cast members are being made aware of the policy change verbally.

Keep Checking Back on This Article for updates on this developing story, when we know it’s confirmed, we will let you know immediately."

There has always been a ban on chanting. Wonder what the "action" is they spoke of. I have tried to look at the article 3 times this morning after a friend posted it but couldn't get it to open.

When we tried to enforce it all you could do was go to the group leader and ask them to quiet their kids down. Most of the time they said they don't speak english and walked off. The worst safety issue is when all 200 of them choose a spot for fireworks that is not okay or safe.

The easiest ones to calm down are the Pop century players/cheerleaders and the other cheer groups. A CM just needs to remind them they can get disqualified for rude behavior or practice inside the parks and suddenly they are angels.

I have not seen specific policy on a ban on chanting. I see rules that it could be interpreted as ... "disruptive or offensive behavior" but to those who do it they would not see that as applying to them. If it is a policy it needs to be very specific, "no chanting" ....

All guides speak English (as do many of the kids, they are from affluent families) and often interact with the CMs .... having sent groups to Disney, there is documentation you have the groups sign so they know full well the rules. They don't follow them, get their group information to put in system and escort them to the gate. Until it is addressed and enforced it will continue.

That Lee Harvey Oswald/Jack Ruby photoshop is AWESOME. :drinking:

Can someone please define "chanting"? I have this image of a squad of Gregorian Monks...... :).

If only it was so zen. Imagine 75 teenagers, boys and girls, shouting full volume and clapping in rhythm like a bunch of high school cheerleaders at a Friday night game, but in queues, on walkways, in restaurants, while sitting and waiting for shows and fireworks, on busses...this nightmare is the chanting so many of us are fed up with.

So cast members don't do anything about that, but 4 times this trip I'm reminded that I can't put an e-cig up to my mouth, not even blowing any vapor.

I think it would be great to start speaking to them in Spanish or Portuguese then:) Maybe I should get some tips from my FIL or BIL; they both speak Portuguese. Luckily, I have never experienced this. Probably, because we go while they are in school, aka US Summer and Spring Break.

Try this out: "Você é tão revoltante um macaco em um tutu."

Translation from Portuguese: "You are as revolting as a monkey in a Tutu."

CMs gave up a long time ago is the difference. It is easy to point to where smoking even e-cig is not permitted outside the designated smoking areas. They make announcements and print that on the maps. It is much easier to ask someone to put out their cigarette and move to a smoking section and to remind them e-cig do count as cigarettes at Disney than it is to ask 20-100 chanting teens to be quiet especially when their leaders are encouraging it. It is the same reason it is hard to get these groups not to nap in the Character Spot building or to move out of the way so that wheelchair viewing areas have a safe entrance and exit route.

I'm not a fan of the chanting but it doesn't bother me for the most part. What does bother me is when they chant after the final parade at night in a big group (30-40 kids) in the middle Main Street. They create a blockade in a area that is already crazy with people trying to leave for the night. A few times I have seen CM try to break it up because of the traffic flow problem but they usually don't have any luck.

If you go on travel sites like Trip Adviser, you'll see that it's also a huge problem when they stay at the Disney resort hotels...they do it at all hours of the day and night. I suppose it's a cultural thing, but we're constantly being reminded not to travel as "ugly Americans", and truth be told I've seen YouTube videos and when it's done in the open it doesn't seem so bad.

In a covered queue however....
