Has anyone done this and is it worth it? For 2 Adults and 2 Kids it's 140.00

Was thinking of passing on the sea Lion show and just going there on our own. Dunno:confused:

We'll be on the same cruise! I don't know specifically about the disney excursion, but I got some great responses about the park on this thread and someone included a link to the park!:

Plus, I did a search on the park and got some good answers there. I don't think that we are going to do the excursion via DCL. We can save a lot of money doing it ourselves and, as you'll see in the above thread, with a toddler, I would rather we kind of do things on our own time-wise. That way, we can leave if he gets bushed or is cranky or something.

Hope this helps :earsboy:

A 15-minute drive south of San Miguel, Chankanaab (the name means "small sea") is a national park with a lovely saltwater lagoon, an archaeological park, a botanical garden, a dolphin aquarium, and a wildlife sanctuary. Chankanaab has remained in its natural state for decades; the few developments haven't destroyed its natural beauty.

Scattered throughout the archaeological park are 60 reproductions of Olmec, Toltec, Aztec, and Maya stone carvings from well-known sites in Mexico. Guides lead interesting, informative tours, explaining the history of the most significant pieces. Also on-site is a good example of a typical Maya house. The botanical garden has more than 450 species of regional plants. Enjoy a cool walk to the lagoon, where 60-odd species of marine life, including fish, coral, turtles, and various crustaceans, live.

Swimming isn't allowed in the lagoon; the area's ecosystem has become fragile since the collapse of underwater tunnels linking the lagoon to the sea. But you can swim and rent equipment to go scuba diving or snorkeling at the beach. There's plenty to see under the sea: a sunken ship, crusty old cannons and anchors, a Maya Chacmool (the revered rain god), and a beautiful sculpture of the Virgin del Mar (Virgin of the Sea). In addition, brilliant fish swim around the coral reef. (Note that it's forbidden to feed the fish or touch the coral.)

A small museum near the beach has photographs illustrating the park's history as well as coral and shell exhibits and some sculptures. You can also watch sea lions perform at one of the daily shows (for an additional fee). Come early, as the park fills up fast, particularly on the days when cruise ships dock. COST: $10. Daily 7-6.

Thanks Amy for the great info!!
After reading this, I think we're going to Chankanaab park on our own:D

Hope we get a chance to meet on this cruise!!

You will LOVE Chakanaab park. As for doing it on your own...go for it. You will have no trouble at all getting a taxi there for minimal cost and then when you are finished a taxi back to the ship, or shopping or like we did Carlos and Charlies. It is a nice clean place. I am sorry we did not have more time to see everything. I was there on the Nordic Empress and we wanted time to shop and party so we only stayed till about 1:30ish. The showers were clean and the toilets were clean....all in all a place I am dying to go back to...... Melissa

We did the sea lion show and the sea lion swim on our own, on the spur of the moment. We took a cab to the park and went to the sea lion show. We had no trouble getting tickets. Then I saw information about the swim, and there was plenty of space available. There was only one other woman, plus a man with three kids, signed up for it. The show is corny but cute, and afterwards you enter the water and one of the sea lions is brought in to interact with you. The first sea lion wanted nothing to do with us, so they switched and brought a different one. We did various things like petting it, kissing it, and having it jump over our outstretched arms. They take a video that you can buy later...the video was reasonable, but the photos were way overpriced so we took a pass on those.
