Chankanaab National Park

Hello Everyone,
I'm doing the Western cruise the week of Labor Day. I'm looking for any info about
Chankanaab National Park. I'm taking my Mom on the dolphin swim, how is that set up? My mom is older, is it easy access to the dolphins? Also my two sisters want to go to the park to watch and take pictures of us. Can they catch a taxi or shuttle to the park from where we dock. They don't want to have to take a "tour". Are there any other fun things to do or see in the park? Thanks for any advice or info!

What is the taxi fare from the pier?

when I went, the dock was not the same as what i understand DCL uses. I think it was something like eight or ten bucks one way for up to four in a taxi...

We did Chankanaab on our own-very easy! Go to the taxi stand to the left at the end of the pier. Ignore people trying to sell you tours. The cab costs $10 each way. Admission to the park is $10 adults, Children 7 and under free, which you pay as you go in. Where the cab lets you off is where you go to catch one back to the ship whenever you are ready. Besides the dolphin swim, there is a SMALL beach area to wade into the water, and great snorkeling that you go into the water down steps built into the sea wall. You can rent snorkle equipment there, but I highly recommend bringing your own purchased at Target, Wal-Mart or Costco.(After 2-3 rentals you've paid for them and no one else has ever used them)
There are also drink stands(bars) and restaurants in the park. There are paths to wander through the jungle and look at the fish lagoons and lizards, and small museums to explain some of the native culture/archeology.

How long should we plan to spend there? We're a family of 5 (DS 6, DD 3, DD 2 at travel date), so we move sloooowly.

Are there many things to interest the younger ones?

you could plan to spend the entire day there or until the kids get tired. I think the kids will enjoy it. If i remember correctly, kids ten and under get in free!
