Changing user name? Why?

I have to admit to being bored this afternoon, and have just been reading through threads for the heck of it! My question is, why do people change their user names? Is it to be sneaky and stir up trouble with an alias, or what? Seems several folks are being (or have been recently) accused of this.

I have noticed "new"people with only a few posts and several colored tags lately. That led me to spend quite some time figuring out I cannot do that! So am assuming that they were someone else and already had an "in" with the tag fairies. But, maybe I am wrong! So, I am just being nosy and wondering what people think, or why you have chosen to change your name.

I love my tag! I didn't mean to offend! It was just one of those days when I was bored, and wanted more color! Honest! I got that tag on a really really rotten day, too! You will note that I chose to keep it and not mess with the powers that be!

Some people have to post with a "new" name here because they've been banned for some reason or another.

While I've never been banned here, I chose to come back with several different user names due to the fact that I was being hounded and stalked by several people and all I wanted to do was post in peace. This last name I've stuck with....and I was able to stay anonymous with it for almost 4 months before it was discovered who I was or used to be. LOL
Of course, my fans immediately started the fun rumor that I had to have a new name here because I'd been banned. That was simply not true, I just didn't want them bugging me.

**EDITED TO ADD: My profile was void of personal details before they discovered who I was. After they discovered my new alias here, I added small bits of info about myself. Have an extra nice afternoon everybody.

I find the name change trend to be quite childish and cowardly. Some people use the aliases to say some pretty nasty things to other people; that way their normal "personality" won't suffer the long-term consequences from what they say. I've seen others pretend to be nice with their alias names and try to entrap someone into making a contradiction; then they pounce.

Some people use aliases to post personal questions that aren't things they would necessarily want everyone on here to know about them (e.g. getting advice about an abusive husband, mental illness, etc). This one I can understand.

Others have had their original names banned and are forced to make up a new name if they want to post. I don't understand why they're even allowed to do that if they're banned.

At least one person changed her name due to technical difficulties, but she put her old name in her sig and isn't trying to fool anyone, so no qualms there.

On top of everything going on here on the DIS, you've got issues with who knows how many aliases on multiple other message boards, plus all the goings-on via PMs. It's really enough to drive a person away from here for good, especially if you're the paranoid type.

Wow! Thanks guys! Once again, I love my tag! I just wanted to mess with it! I was bored...the kids were sick...

Well, I've decided that the only thing that would cause me to change mine would be if I won the lottery! My husband would have a hissy fit if I actually wrote something like that on a BB. So...if you see a lottery winner...it won't be me!

I have decided to remain in denial that anyone would become abusive to someone on these boards. I am sorry that people feel would behave in that manner!
