Changing to plane dishes !!!

Put is this way...how much weight did you give dinnerware when making your own DVC purchase decision?

If these smaller mugs & bowls were in-place back then, would it have swayed your decision?

Not at all :thumbsup2

Lesson for me... i was thinking way off on a tangent....after seeing people get upset about not going to see the mouse because of plain napkins and such... i was just thinking what they would say about a change like this. I was wrong to think in such a way.

I personally don't feel that way, and won't think such thoughts in the future.

Owners Locker rents strollers - I wonder if they'd consider dishware rentals ;)

Plain white pottery at Villas @ Grand Floridian got you down? Rent our Royal Dalton Fine china! Only $$/day (plus deposit)

:rotfl: I am kidding of course

FWIW, I'm not sure I buy into that one either. ;)

I know some people take issue with changes Disney has made over the years. And that's certainly their prerogative. But I find it hard to believe that napkins would be the proverbial tipping point. If anything, it's just one more item to add to a much longer list of personal grievances.

As for the villa dishes, I do think the plain dishes could be a lost opportunity to "wow" someone. It's reasonable to think that some people--opening the cabinets during a tour--would be impressed by designer dishware. That could be one small factor which contributes to an easier sale.

But at the end of the day, I don't think DVC is going to actually lose any sales over generic dishes.

It's more of a 'general overall' look of the new villa's that sell us on a particular resort, and that includes the dinnerware, the curtains, the pillows, etc. I, for one, really liked the Kidani dinnerware and am sorry to see them replaced. Will it lesson my vacation experience...no, but I did enjoy the way the dinnerware fit with the room decor.

I have to admit that I'm a little shocked that people steal the dinnerware! I know...I'm a hopeless optimistic, always believing in the good of people.

I do agree with you on all points :thumbsup2 ... didn't mean to cause dissension... my mind isn't all here today...guess i'm just having a bad day.

I'll be really shocked if the new models for the GF villas have plain white plates!

I agree. The models are set up for the best presentation possible - staging can be huge and I don't think Disney will skip that simple detail.

It doesn't mean the actual villas will have anything different than the generic but I will be surprised if the models do. But I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the actual villas have something different for a few years. Then the big old switcharoo can happen.

Unfortunately, I've stopped being shocked, after the cloth napkins and pretty generic napkin rings, salt & pepper shakers and generic placemats disappeared from OKW. And after pricing some Fiestaware like at OKW, I can see why they went to generic at the resorts. I just bought four Fiestaware bowls on Amazon and spent about $40.

a few here mentioned that using the bowls were pretty much useless; and that the coffee cups were quite small.
It's perfectly possible to refill either....

They steal much more than the dinnerware, lamps, the i-pod alarm clocks, and at the Wilderness Lodge even the artwork off the walls of the lobby just to mention a few things.

I don't know about the napkins or napkin rings but the salt and pepper shakers had to be replaced after each room was vacated. Sanitary health regulations kept Disney from allowing the opened shakers to be reused for new guests. Remember they had the black seals on them that had to be removed before they could be used. I just wish they put the salt and pepper like they have at the quick serve restaurants in the villas so we don't have to get them from a counter service place each trip. We always ask if we can take some extra packets for the villa. So far we have never been told we could not have them. In fact the response is usually thanks for asking, most folks just take them.

Now for all the people that view Disney through rose colored glasses the generic white plates will look pink,:lmao:

Staying in AKL Kidani Village --- housekeeping just came in and is switching out the themed plates to plane white ones.... now, truth be told, the bowls were too small -- but at least it was all African themed... now it is boring white.

It is a cost cutting measure.... all dishes the same... oh well.

so when is Disney going to sell them?

never take stuff - but would love a set of these dishes.

Sadly, I know. I just wish it wasn't to a level that they actually have to 'generic' the dishware. Makes me sad that there are that many people out there who will steal, just don't get their thinking.

I'm told that during AP/D23 previews, someone managed to pry one of the starfish off of the rockwork in the Mermaid queue.

This is why we can't have nice things.
