If my husband can not make our cruise scheduled for April 19, 2019, can I take a friend instead of him? Our PIF date is rapidly approaching and I'm not sure if this can be done after payment.

As far as I know, yes, you can change a passenger name. At some point there's a fee for doing it. Not sure when the charge kicks in, though.

My husband had to back out last minute due to work obligations, so we switched his name to my mom’s about three weeks before we sailed. It was easy, and I believe a $50 change fee.

OP Question:
Is your DH the first person listed on the reservation?
If, yes then you would have to cancel the reservation and re-book at today's rates.
If, no then you should not have a major issue with changing.

I believe that's changed. As long as one of the original names remains on the reservation it should remain intact.

I don't think they do the "lead name" thing any more.

That's a good thing and I hope is true. The old way really didn't make much sense and was very limiting.
