Changing rooms from Guarantee Status

If I have Deck 2 guarantee status, and not an assigned room, can I change to an assigned room on a different deck if one opens up? If so, can I do it on line or do I have to call since it's just guarantee status?

If you booked the category as GTY then you could change categories at the cost assuming you are not beyond your PIF date. (Not sure on DCL's policy on post-PIF changes.)

If you booked it at *OGT that required payment in full at booking, it was my understanding that there are no cancellations or refunds.

Either way, once a cabin is assigned that is it AFAIK. DCL is not like RCCL where you can book a guarantee and then call and whine and change your stateroom because you don't like the hand you got dealt.

As noted, if your booking is GTY (with a specific category next to it), then you can upgrade, and I believe you can do so at any time. Not sure about the online vs phone call, though.

If you have OGT booking (you've booked a type of room, not a specific category), there are no changes allowed.

Once a guaranteed booking (of either type) has been assigned a room, it's pretty much set. But it can be changed, if DCL decides they need it.

Thanks Princess Shmoo. You always have the best answers. It's not OGT it's guaranteed. I actually have an assigned room on deck 5, but I wanted to add my mom. The only rooms left that would take 4 people were guaranteed rooms on deck 2. (something about life boat capacity for deck 5) So, my thought was to take the guaranteed room so she could go, but keep my eye on any staterooms opening up and change to one that would take 4 people later on. I was just worried that if I took the guaranteed room, I could not change it later.

Thanks for your reply :) I have no idea what AFAIK means. Never been on RCCL but it's good to know that I can whine if I don't like my room.:flower3:

Yes, you could do that. But if you are at the point where GTY rooms have been assigned, you must be getting close to your cruise date (and probably past the PIF date?). While possible that a room on deck 5 will open up between now and sail date, it's probably a small chance. Make sure you will be happy with your change and have realistic expectations about the possibility to change staterooms later.

Enjoy your cruise!
