Changing ressies made w/banked points?

We have some 2005 banked points left to use by the end of Feb. 2007. If we book a room for our friends by August 31st (the date that the points have to be booked by) and our friends change their dates of travel, what will happen to our points? Are they still good as long as they are used by end of Feb. '07 or can we not make changes to the ressie once the August 31st date passes?

I'm assuming that you have a March Use Year. The 2005 points that you banked into 2006 have to be used by the last day of February 2007. I do not understand the significance that you are giving August 31. You could make your reservations at any DVC property even after August 31st, the important thing is that the stay that you are using the points for has to be completed before the beginning of your '07 UY.

It sounds as though there is confusion about the banking deadline. With a March Use Year, August 31 would be last date to bank up to 100% of your points - but that has nothing to do with making reservations. If the points have already been banked, the only deadline is February 28 since that is when they will expire if not used.

Sounds lke you should be fine with your plans. Points returned to the account because of a cancellation have no additional restrictions other than expiration date, banking deadlines, "Reservation Point" status (for cancelled reservation made for non-DVC options) and "Holding Account" (for reservations cancelled within 30 days of arrival).

I too was having trouble seeing the significance of booking by August, but I think Doc might be right. You do seem to be confusing booking with banking.

We do have a March use year and I think that you've all answered my questions and clarified my confusion....

I was assuming that since these points were banked from 2005 and they could not be banked again, we had to make a ressie with them by Aug. 31st (our usual "bank by or lose them" date) of this year or lose them because they can't be banked again. I understand now that that is not the case for banked points..thanks!

Bank by dates and use dates can be different. If you have a March use year, and these are '05 points, you have until the end of Feb. '07 to use them for a reservation that occurs before the end of Feb. '07. When you book that reservation has nothing to do with August. You can book that reservation any time, but the reservation has to be for a stay BEFORE the end of Feb. '07.
