changing resorts on rented points?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm hoping someone can help me out...

We rented points from David's for a 2br at VWL for early October. News of a potential pool closing would be horrible for our family.

There is still availability at AKL (it seems), has anyone ever rented out pts and then switched a ressie for the renters?

Our dates would be the same, but the standard view is less expensive (changing to this would be our preference) and Savannah room is more expensive (not sure if David's could get the additional points)

Anyone have any input to offer? I've emailed David's but of course it's the weekend and I'm a nervous wreck waiting.

thank you in advance for any insight you might be able to offer.

It's up to the member who booked it. If there's availability, I don't see why they would not change it for you for less points (but potentially not returning money). For more points depends on if they have them.

I highly doubt they will change it. It is all sales final. They are super nice and accommodating but that is changing a purchase.

1. It's extra work with no extra benefit to the point seller.
2. If something goes wrong and the original reservation is lost, who takes the blame?
3. What if you change your mind 10 more times before the trip, due to a variety of different but valid reasons.

As you can see, there should be no reason to allow change, especially such terms are already spelled out black-and-white on David's rental contract.

"Due to the complexity of the point system and the fact that Members may have to bank or borrow points in order to secure your reservation, cancellations and modification of dates are not permitted. The lead guest name must also remain the same due to a rental agreement between the guest and the member, however, you are permitted to add or delete the additional guests listed in the room with you.

You may want explore the possibilities of adding Travel Insurance to protect yourself against unexpected situations. I do not provide this insurance, but you can obtain a very reasonable quote here: Travel Insurance Quote"

As mentioned, all you can do is ask. The person you rented from may be willing to change it for you if there is availability.

What I would not count on, even if they are willing to do it is any adjustment of the price if what you can get is less points.

And, as others have said, if it is more, the person may not have additional points to use.

Good luck!

So what I would respectfully suggest is that you decide what the change is worth to you. You are asking someone to do additional work.

In my experience, effort like this work best when both parties gain. What ever it is worth to you, realize that David's has to redo the contracts and the owner has to redo the reservation.

There is also some risk that you could lose the reservation completely if they cancel the first to free up points for the second, and the categories fill at that moment. Unlikely, but a real risk.

So if the change is still worth it, offer something: a $2 change fee probably wouldn't do. $250 might...

...(snip)...... News of a potential pool closing would be horrible for our family..........

Remember that there are two pools at VWL. It is unlikely that both would be closed at the same time.

Assuming it is the main pool that is potentially closing, VWL & WL guests will be provided an option to use another resort's pool. Perhaps they will be given a free admission to one of the water parks similar to what was done for Poly guests.

So maybe the closing, if it occurs during your stay, will turn out to be inconvenient, but not horrible.

FWIW, I'm having trouble imagining that there is availability for consecutive nights in a 2B anywhere at AKV for that time. Only the members' website has inventory for the villas available for points. If you are looking at Disney's website, that availability is for cash only. So unless a member checked for you, you did not get the correct information. Even if a member checked, that was a snapshot in time and is unlikely to be there for any length of time.

I'm sorry to be such a Gloomy Gus about this. I do not think David's will allow you to change. Keep in mind that early October is a busy time for DVC resorts. If your vacation dates include Columbus Day weekend, it is possible to lose your entire reservation during a switch. Better to make the best of it. Sorry.

Think the important part to remember is 'potential' - we've often found that potential negatives have not always evolved.

Everyone here can speculate and give opinions but it will be up to you to call and find out. I hope you get what you want.

Do come back and let us know.

I agree. It's hard to imagine there is anything other than a night here or there available in a 2BR at AKV for early October. That's only four months away! If a DVC member checked for the OP, it's possible they just happened to see some nights that were just cancelled by someone else. If so, I expect those nights are long gone.

I am thinking availability will be the biggest issue here. We just booked a 2BR for 3rd week of October and the only thing available was SSR.

They might be willing, they might not. I would count on not and be happy if they do. Rentals are final transactions so it would be done to the goodwill of the renter.

The one thing I wouldn't expect is to get a refund if it is fewer points. You don't know if the renter will be able to use the points you free up so it would be unreasonable to expect a refund. Just so you know.

I think availability will be your biggest issue. This late as an AKV owner I'd be surprised if there is availability.

Where did you hear the pool will be closing? I haven't seen it anywhere listed anywhere.

Staying on DVC points allows you the opportunity/permission to pool hop to several different pools. I'm not sure about the rules exactly, but I think only Stormalong Bay at BCV and the AKV pools are exempted and there are a few blackout dates.

You could make a pool hopping adventure out of it, IF VWL pool is out of service.

Renters cannot pool hop.

Add BLT to that list too, but as stated renters aren't allowed to pool hop.
I hope the pool is open for your trip! :) I absolutely love WL!

Member privileges do NOT extend to renters. Perks are only extended to others on a points reservation when the member is present and able to show their blue member card.

HOWEVER, generally when a feature pool is closed, hotel guests, including guests at the DVC portion of the resort, are offered the opportunity to hop to a nearby like pool - they'll tell you which ones. For WL it will likely be the Contemporary - although they may have determined those pools are at capacity and with the construction at the Poly, may do something else.

I don't have much hope. DVCrequest has to agree to contact the owner - it isn't part of their contract with you or their contract with the owner that they do so and, as someone upthread said, it adds cost and risk for them. Then the owner has to be able to be reached - its summer, people aren't easily reachable in the summer (one of the downsides of renting is that your owner isn't a reservations center - they have a life, they go on vacation themselves, they travel for business, they are busy - I currently have rented my points through David and they just sent a note to my renter letting them know I'm leaving town for much of the Summer - if they want ME or a Dining Plan, my response might not be good). Then the owner has to agree to make the call. Once all that happens, the room that you think might be available (but I agree, probably isn't, you are going for a marathon weekend over Food and Wine) needs to still be available for the member to book. And if there is a point differential and you need more points - the owner needs to have those points available and no other plans for those points.
