Changing reservations at last minute, points question...

I have booked a 1 bdrm at SSR for mid March at 108 points. I am on the wait list for a studio for 52 points. Assuming I get the studio, because of the time frame (inside of x amount of days) I was told my 56 points saved would go into holding. What does this mean???

Because your change occurred inside of 30 days any cancellations or changes in points put the points into holding. That means that you can still use them but once your "use year" is over they go away. If your use year starts in October, like mine, for example my "year" runs right now from Oct 1 2005 to Sept 30 2006. You can use your holding points until Sept 30. You cannot bank them. You can use them for another trip during the use year and borrow some from the next year, but once Sep 30 is over, you lose those points. Now your use year might be different than mine. Just put your dates in place of mine.

Another option is to sell or transfer the holding points. I was in the same situation last year. I had some adjustments within the 30 days of arrival and was left with 22 holding points. Since this occurred around Easter, I had 6 months to use the points or sell/transfer them. The going rate is $10 per point. I posted on the rent/trade board here on Disboards and sold them within 2 weeks. It's in the same section as the DVC boards on the main page. It helps to have a Paypal account since you get your money right away and you are in control since you have to make the transfer and I usually wait until the payment is confirmed and then call MS to make the transfer.

Mosts of the people who post their points on the board are old pros at it and know the procedures. It is really easy.

Holding Account:

1. Points can be used for a new DVC resort reservation during the current use year as long as the reservation is booked 60 days or less before the new check-in date.

2. Points can be used for an exchange through The Disney Collection, World Passport, Concierge, or Adventurer Collection if making the reservation 60 days or less before the new arrival date, and more than 60 days before the end of your current use year.

3. Holding points cannot be banked or borrowed.

4. Holding points expire at the end of their use year if not used.
