Changing reservation to different resort

Last minute by Disney terms, we're going for 2 nights a few days before Christmas. I made a reservation at a resort I'm not that crazy about because nothing else was showing up in my price range. I'm going to keep looking and if I see something I'd like better, I want to switch it. What's the best way to do this if another resort comes up? This is a room only reservation, but I did make fastpass selections and restaurant ressies. If I cancel my room and then book a new room, will all my fastpass and restaurant choices go away?

I saw something better today at lunchtime and I tried to call about it. I waited on hold so long that the room wasn't showing up anymore. Hopefully, there's a way I can do this without calling them.

I can try to help..1) If there is no amount of park tickets linked to your MDE account then they will cancel your fastpasses. The restaurant reservations will be fine even if you cancel your resort reservation. 2) Im not sure exactly the dates of your trip but if you have more than 30 days you can edit your reservation online under "My Disney Experience" then "Reservations" and there will be a "change reservation" button. However if you have less than 30 days until your trip you would have to call to change your resort, but usually they will charge a fee (unless you are upgrading to a higher level resort then they will usually waive the fee)..hope that helps!

IDK about fast passes, but...

If you booked the room through the Disney site you should be able to change it yourself. Pull up "My Resevations and Tickets" and next to the resort (or room) there should be a "change" clickable link. And it will lead you through. That is also an easier way to check for rooms than going in like you are making a reservation and then repeating the steps.

OP has a room-only reservation. Their reservation can be changed online if the OP had booked online. They also would not have been able to book their FP+ without having tickets already in their MDE account. When it comes to cancellations and changes, guests with room-only reservations can cancel without penalty up to 6 days prior to arrival.

@dminnie , my advice at this point would be to book the room you want online when you see it. Then call to cancel the old reservation after you've made sure that you have the 2nd reservation sewn up. This will mean that you will have to make a second deposit and wait for the refund for your first reservation. But this is the easiest way to ensure that you get what you really wanted.

Since FP+ is linked to tickets and not the resort reservation, you would not lose your FP+ by cancelling the room that you booked. But if you want to be "safe" (and by "safe", I mean for your own peace of mind), just wait until you are less than 30 days from arrival to cancel the first reservation.

ADRs are not affected by room cancellations.

I was going to suggest the same as the above - I have done this a few times as the "change reservation" option online never works for me.

So - based on your OP you have a room only reservation with tickets and FP+ reservations. If/When you find the room you want online book it ! Then either call to cancel the original reservation or just do it online - I have canceled mine once by calling and the 2nd time I just took a chance and canceled online after being on hold for an unreasonable amount of time. All my FP and dining reservations were fine both times.

Up to you doing what you feel most comfortable with, good luck finding the resort you want!

Thanks for the advice. The resort I wanted (Caribbean Beach Resort) did come up when I searched tonight with a price a little lower than I had reserved at French Quarter. I went ahead and reserved CBR and then cancelled French Quarter...all on-line(I try to avoid having to call for reservations). I have some non-expiring tickets that are still on my account, so I didn't have a package, just a room reservation. So far, my fastpass and and restaurant reservations are still showing up. I'll probably double check that in a couple days to be sure they don't drop off whenever they process my refund for my room deposit.

I'm glad to have made the change. I talked the family into this and no one has ever liked the French Quarter resort. They'll like getting to go back to CBR. I don't think any of them really want to go at such a busy time, but I wanted to see the Christmas decorations at WDW.
