Afternoon all

Well I have come the conclusion that I am changing my working path, I am at present an advisor with a high street bank, but unfortunatly this isnt a good place for me any more.

I am trained to BTEC national diploma in childhood studies, and when I came out of college there were not many oportunities for a newly qualified nursery nurse.

Well now that I have a house of my own I have decided to return to my love of working with children and become a childminder.

Big change huh.

Is anybody out there a childminder or use a childminder that could offer me any advice.

I am talking to the childrens informational and contacting ofsted tomorrow.

Its definatly a big thing leaving work, and going it alone and I guess I am looking for a bit of support lol, though Chris is all for it, as it means when we come to having children I will be able to stay at home.

thanx anna

Always hard to give up an existing job. Hope everything works out for you.

Good luck

Susan

I was a child minder for a few years through NCMA, if there is anything I can help you with just send me a pm :thumbsup2

There are a lot of policies and procedures that need to be adhered to and if you have an older house you may need to make a few changes but nothing drastic.

If you want an idea on policies, I can send you the ones I had in place for a rough draft :)

Good luck!

ooo well done on your decision. I have the same qualification as you and work in a school. It's certainly interesting working in childcare now. Good luck!!

Good luck Anna. :thumbsup2

I used to be in banking too, I plucked up the courage to leave 10 years ago and have never regretted it. It's not an easy decision leaving such a well-paid, secure job so well done and good luck in your new career. :goodvibes

Good luck Anna :)

Anna i forgot to say .....make sure you get payment up front !!! i let one of my parents off last week and she hasn't turned up this morning  she owes nearly £300 :headache:

I have started to buy bits and bats, and have been in contact with the ncma and cis in my area.

Big thanks to natalie I really appreciate the help!!

Mandy :)

Do you have a food hygiene certificate also? You may need one as even if your washing fruit you will need one.

Also in our area they run under 8 meetings, where anyone who works with children can go along and borrow equipment from the group for about 3 months. We have soft play stuff, books, SEN play things, multicultural..might worth looking at. Also i don't kknow if it's the same for child minders but alot of the toys that people buy have to have the kite mark on them.

i am guessing but named brands should all be kite mark, such as elc, disney etc, I havnt bought any unnamed

am I right thinking that

oh and the out door toys are all little tikes

Sorry missed this one originally but good for you Anna :)

I hope it all goes well for you (and that next year will be slightly less eventful!)

hope not lol, we are hoping for a little pitter patter next year lol
