Changing number of guests online

If I have a ressie for a party of 8 but our friends decide later (before the trip of course) not to meet us for breakfast one morning, can I change the number of people online under my ressies or do I have to call?? Will there be a penalty for changing from 8 to 3 later? It's for Crystal Palace breakfast.

As far as I know you cannot change the number of people in your reservation online (at least I couldn't in March).

Regarding the penalty, you will not be charged unless no one shows up for your ADR. As long as one person honors the ADR, they won't charge the no show penalty for the other folks.

Normally I would say that it's not a big deal if you show up with less people, but your going from 8 to 3, which is a pretty significant size change. I would probably try to change the party size, but it's possible that they won't be any availability for 3 (the system doesn't see 3 as a sub-set of 8, so even if you cancel and in theory there is a table for 8 open, the system won't know to assign a party of 3 to that table). If you can't get a new reservation, I would probably keep the old one (for 8) and then tell them at the podium the correct party size.

I changed ours last week. We had a reservation for 8 and another family is joining us so I needed to change it to 12. I searched for a reservation for 12 at the same restaurant and it prompted me to cancel the other one.
