I got married 6 months ago and changed my name. I still have my maiden name on my membership. Who exactly would I call to get that changed? Is it difficult to do?

Also, I would like to add DH to the contract. Can this be easily done? Or would I just add him as an associate?

I would for call quality assurance (member ID phone number) and ask this question, I am sure they will have the answer or direct you to someone who can. I am sure this happens often.

I wish you luck. They still haven't managed to get mine right yet. I got married 5 years ago. My maiden name always shows back up and when we make a reservation it is never correct.

Call MS and select Member Administration from the selection menu. You may need to leave a message for a call back.

Quality Assurance deals with new purchases and new contracts.

I can't speak to how easy it is to add your husband and if you'll need to go through the process of recording an updated deed with the county - typically requiring an attorney or using DVC's services for $300 or per contract. My guess is you will. It's a legal ownership (lease) for a deeded property that will likely require you go through the process.

None the less, I wouldn't recommend the Associate Membership. Associate members are able to book reservations, but that's about the only perk of being an associate member.

You can do a quit claim deed to add your husband yourself for under $50, you can accomplish the name change this way and it will be permanent. You will need to MAKE SURE that DVC knows it's a name change and not a sale or they will cancel any pending reservations.

Nothing wrong with being an associate. There's very little I can't do, and I haven't come up with something that I WANT to do but can't. I'm the only one who has called DVC so far, LOL, and we only ever set up DH's online account anyway, and just use that one.

In the past people have mentioned that if you still have a loan on the contract you can't do that so easily....

Dean, how do you go about doing the Quit Claim with Disney? Do you call them for a ROFR form and submit the Quit Claim directly with them, or can you just go ahead and file it with the Orange County Comptroller's office yourself without the Waiver? I would appreciate details on how this is accomplished, as that is how we were planning on gifting the contracts to our kids and my parents. Thanks for any insight you can offer!

If you have a loan I don't think you can change the registration because you'd have to have the loan company agree to it. I do not ever recall anyone saying they could but also don't recall anyone saying they tried and failed. I wouldn't mess with it if there's a loan.

Actually it's very simple to do and not nearly as risky or difficult as some would like you to believe even if buying or selling. Here's how you'd do it.

Contact DVC for their current info. What follows is the correct info as of winter 2007, I see no indications the process has changed except that Orange County has done away with the form DR219

  • Complete and send in the "Request to Transfer Form" documenting the legal description, who the current owners are and who the new owners will be. Basically you list the current owners and any then ALL owners on the transfer to line including any current owners. This form is designed to transfer when there is no payment being received. The process is similar if a sales but instead of this form, you'd send them the contract and request for ROFR specifying a closing date at least 30 days from when they are to receive it.
  • They will send you the ROFR form based on this info.
  • Then you just need to send the ROFR form and quit claim deed with the proper recording fees to Orange County.
  • Once you have the recorded deed back, you then send a COPY to DVC along with the completed transfer form.

A few tidbits:

One can put multiple requests on the same forms AND one can ask DVC to put multiple contracts on ONE ROFR letter. They MAY balk and require them to be separate if they are different home resorts or master contracts but no harm in trying as you have to pay by the page and document for recording.
You can print the recorded copy off the website so no need to wait for it to return by mail, this can save you some time.
Have the quit claim (or any other type) ready when you get the paperwork so you can send it on.
Unlike a sale, you do need a copy of the recorded deed per the info I received at the time.

Orange County recording requirements
List of fees A 2 page deed and a 2 page ROFR would be $37 as I understand it assuming 4 names or less. It's $10 for page 1 and $8.50 for each subsequent page but because the deed and ROFR are technically separate docs, you pay $10 for each first page. I wonder out load what would happen if you got ROFR but didn't record it at the time. I'm guessing DVC would still record the deed if the ROFR had been issued even if not recorded.

I have a word template that is FL specific and at met the requirements of FL law and OC at the time I did mine just over 2 years ago. I'd be happy to email the template to anyone that wanted it.

We just did this. My parents wanted to add my wife and I to their deeds as an estate planning mechanism rather than putting it into trust. Allows us to 1)receive member benefits and 2) plan trips. My mom is getting less interested in having to do all the planning to get member discounts for tours, spas, etc.

It was rather simple and Disney (to this point) has been very quick to respond. We had an attorney prepare the quit claim deeds for us as I get the service free through work. Otherwise, likely will cost $250-$400 to do via that route. Disney would have charged us $450 or so to prepare two deeds. Once the transfer request form was completed, Disney sent us a ROFR waiver within 10 days for both deeds.

Then, as Dean said, the deeds and waivers were submitted to Orange County. We paid $10.70 each for the two deeds and $18.50 each for the two waivers (hence the idea of trying to get one waiver for multiple deeds if necessary).

Something funky happened with the county because even though we finished all the paperwork and it was supposedly submitted on 5/17 or so, the deeds weren't recorded until 7/12 at 11:30 (yup, the time is listed on the site).

Once they were finally recorded, we were able to download the images of each deed and waiver as recorded by Orange County into a PDF and are mailing them off to Disney tomorrow.

We'll see how long it takes for Disney to actually recognize us as members and send out membership cards.

The hardest part is preparing the quit claim deeds, after looking at what the attorney prepared, if you can get a template, easy as pie. Had we not had the service available for free I may have tried harder to do myself. If you can get Dean's template do so. Most of it is a copy and past of your current deed (the legal discription and ownership interest) over onto the quit claim deed.

Anyone else know how long it takes once you send the recorded documents back to Disney for additional members to get added in and sent membership cards?

TTT will do it for $75 plus recording fees though I'm not sure if they'll do ROFR for that price.

Well it took a couple of days but I finally got an email back. The email says to "please send the documentation that has changed your name to our
fax number." I don't really know what exactly that means I should send. The marriage license has my old last name and DH last name, but doesn't prove that I changed my name. My driver's license has my new last name, but doesn't show my old last name. It's not like I have documentation that says I changed my name from this to that. Does anyone who did this recently know what exactly they had to send? I figure I'd ask here since it might take a couple days for them to get back to me if I ask.

At The Timeshare Store, Inc., we use Magic Vacation Title for all of our title work. Nancy or Brenda at *** can take care of everything for $150. Remember that changing your name with Disney on your membership does not update your name on the deed/title. *** will be able to assist with your name change.

Please feel free to contact me a scot@dvcstore.com if you need any further information.:cool1::banana:

Old and new SS Card or SS Card application?

I would think that a copy of the marriage license would be enough to prove to them that you have a new last name. You can also include your license if you want.

It's a special topic for me , I get much useful information from it .thanks very much !
