Changing Hotels First and Last Night

Just looking for opinions, so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

We are going to Disney for our first extended stay....presently 14 nights. We've never been more than 3 nights.

We are planning to drive as we thought it might be nice to have a car while there (about an 850 mile drive), but $19/night * 14 nights is a chunk of change. We also presently have hotel reservations on the way down and on the way back.

I was looking at Southwest flights and the times (and price) work out wonderfully if we were to fly down the day before our Caribbean check-in and back the day after Caribbean check-out.

We could potentially stay off-site those first and last days, but we wouldn't be able to get any FPs because as passholders it would institute the 7 day limit (we are going back in August also).

It also seems we are maxed out with our passholder rate @ 14 days at Caribbean. However, I was wondering if anybody has experience in staying at a different Disney resort both the first and last nights? Is it worth the hassle?

Thanks.

I've stayed at a different Disney Resort the first night. I didn't find it to be too big of a hassle. I didn't unpack much that first night, only the necessities. The next morning I packed up and dropped my bags with bell services and headed to the park. At the end of my park day, I headed to my new resort and picked up my bags from bell services. Easy peasey. You just have to note a couple of things so you can plan accordingly: 1. Your luggage won't get to your new resort until somewhere between 3pm-5pm. 2. Your room at your new resort might not be ready until later in the afternoon (check-in time usually starts at 4pm).

Have a great trip!

Thanks, different question that you (or somebody else) may be able to answer. I actually noticed there are different room types available for the nights we would need at Caribbean. Anybody have issues checking out of / into different room types at the same resort? Seems like it might simplify the process a bit.

You could always stay at an airport hotel the first day or last day depending on your flight schedule as well. I know people who do that and use "free" shuttles to get to and from the airport and connect with Magical Express. Could be a cheaper option. I would just pack what you need for that first night and last night in one bag so you can leave your other suitcases packed and ready for the middle part of your trip.

Last night could definitely work. The flight the first day arrives before 8:00a, so wouldn't want to give up a full park day :-)

We decided to add a different room type at Caribbean for the first night and leave on our original day, so should be good to go. Just have to switch rooms on day 2.
