Changing from room only to package

We have a room only reservation right now and am planning to switch to a package. This is what I did last time and I called and had them change it. I was wondering if it would just be easier to rebook the whole package and just cancel my room only reservation, and link my
Magic bands to the new reservation myself. I spent over two hours on the phone last year doing this and it was a huge headache. Thoughts? Tips?

We found that there was only a $4 saving across 4 people to do the package over doing a room only and buying the tickets (still direct from Disney).
Is there any downside to having them separately?

Unless there is some special that goes with the package (e.g. free dining) there is no significant savings in buying a package compared with buying things separately.

Technically, to change from a package to room only (or vice versa) the reservationist cancels what you have and books what you want anew.

Room only also lets you cancel without penalty much closer to arrival date (I think it is 6 days) while for packages it is something like 45 days in advance.

(Tickets purchased separately may not be returned for refund, although the tickets can be used anytime in the future.)

If you aren't calling at a busy time (like the day a promotion comes out) it shouldn't take that much time to just add tickets or dining to a room only.

Besides with all the rumors of ticket prices increasing you would lock in the older pricing if they go up.
