I am thinking way ahead, like a year or more from now about my first DVC vacation. To save points I was thinking of staying the first 3 or 4 nights (including a weekend) in a studio and then switching to a one bedroom for the remaining 5 nights. Has anyone had experience with this? Have you completely changed resorts or stayed at the same resort? Is this complicated?

Thanks,

Amy

I have had experience with being in a studio and then going to a 2BR at the same resort. It's not complicated at all. When you check in, mention to the CM what you are doing and they will do everything they can to make it go as easily as possible. If you are changing resorts, Bell Services will store and move your bags for you. They will magically appear at your new resort around 4:00 P.M.

Well it is definetly not complicated if that is what you want to do. Basically you will have 2 reservations. The thing with moving is if the hotel is full the night before you will be required to check out as if you were leaving that day and check back in as if you just arrived. Meaning you would have to pack up from the studio by 11am (check out time), have the hotel store your luggage (or put it in your car if you have one), and pre-check in, which would gaurantee your room sometime after 4pm. You could get lucky and get right into the other room, but then again you could have to wait. It has never been an issue for us, we just pack up the night before, store our bags when we are ready to head out... Pre-register for the new room before we leave for the parks (so we get the ID cards and everything) and then just come back when we are ready later in the evening and get the new room keys.

Disney makes it very easy to change resorts, or rooms as the case may be. I however, do not like to move. I just don't like to waste ANY of my vacation time packing and unpacking.

With that said, we are staying at Pop for two nights in April and then moving to VWL for the next 6. Oh well! We don't get in until 1 AM on Friday and I absolutely couldn't see "spending" the points to maybe get a room that didn't meet our requests.

The secret is to pack very lightly.

Most people overpack anyway and forget they're staying at a DVC resort where they'll have washer and dryer. It's easy to throw stuff in the wash, go out to a park, throw it in the dryer when you get back. That way it's not necessary to pack 2-weeks worth of clothing. Just pack a few days worth and wash stuff.

Same thing with toiletries and other packed items. Take only things you will definitely use. And will use more than once. You'd be surprised how many people will start packing for a vacation, look in their medicine cabinet and see something they haven't used for over a year, and pack it for their vacation...just in case :teeth:
