Changing a Vacation Time???

I need help and I know you guys are experts. I am new to DVC. I have a week scheduled at the BWV in March but I need to move it back 2 weeks. Is there any cancellation point risk? Can I cancel at any time (within reason of course)? Is there a time when if no one else wants the room, I loose points? Please explain the policy for cancellations....

You can cancel without penalty any time up to 31 days before the trip. As long as you can re-book or can bank, it should not be an issue. If you cancel less than 30 days before a trip, the points go into a holding account and can only be used for ressies in the last 60 days of your use year. Changing now for March should not be an issue other than availability.

everyone has their spring break at different times and i would think march and april are more the popular ones, so with this in mind, if you know your dates and where you want to stay, i would check availablity for new dates, cancel old ressies and book new ressies right away so you get what you want and dont have to worry about being put on a waitlist especialy if you want to buy airline tickets.

One small correction to what dianeschlicht said. If your points go into a holding account they can only be used for reservations made within 60 days of your travel, not within 60 days of the end of your use year.

The other snag can be your Use Year. If you let me know what it is, I can tell you if you'll have any considerations with that.

The only way you would completely lose your points is if you do not appear on the day of check-in. In that case, points for entire trip are forfeited. (If there is some emergency, always phone DVC and/or directly to the resort and let them know what's happening.)

Cancellation policies for the non-DVC resorts are different and should be checked for specifics.

If you've got an August Use Year, no problem cancelling a March reservation. The consideration is when you are cancelling a reservation during the last 60 days of your Use Year....you start to run out of options to re-use the points.
