Changes to ID requirements for alcohol purchases at Walt Disney World

I don't think this is new. I read about it ages ago on the Canadian board. People were saying they were turned away because they didn't have their passport on them at Epcot when trying to purchase alcohol.

Maybe you're referring to something else, but this is new. You no longer have to have your actual passport to purchase alcohol. They'll accept a copy of it along with a government issued ID like a DL. It was just in the news a day or so ago. They never used to accept copies.

I think it varies by CM. I've both been carded and not carded. I am in my 30s but do not look it. Esp if I am in a t-shirt and a baseball cap.

I always toss my ID into my lanyard pouch and off I go.

I often get asked for ID when using a credit card.

I purposely sign my cc "see ID" and hand them the card so they can see the "see ID" so they have to ask for it. Guess what? 99% of the time they dont ask.

Believe it or not, more than half of the people who write "see ID" on their card get really pissy when they actually have to get their wallet back out to show their ID. Seriously. It just isn't really worth it to ask.

I always thank the person for asking when they do:) Interestingly enough, Starbucks seems to be the most consistent about asking for it.

Not if they have their ID in hand because they want them to ask. ºOº

Writing see ID means your CC is invalid so a clerk could refuse the transaction if they wanted. Since your name isn't See ID. And per the CC agreements they are not supposed to ask for ID anyway.

Never ever had a problem in all the years I've had cc. If they have a problem thats just what it is,,,their problem and I take my business elsewhere (in the park too)

Thats kinda hard to do if you are trying to pay for dinner.

If it is an immediate transaction, you can certainly just say "no thanks, nevermind", but not if you have already eaten and paying your bill.

The issue is most people don't know what line is even for, nor do they even look at it. You could write "stolen card" on it and probably never ever be asked about it.

Guess I'd be doing dishes :rotfl2:

We're going to Food & Wine in October with some friends of ours who just moved to the States from Canada. They have permanent resident cards. Anyone know if that type of ID would suffice as a US government issued ID ?

I'm glad to hear this before leaving!! I got caught having only my Canada driver's on me, every day I was able to buy alcohol with only it until we got to 50'S PT and he INSISTED that I needed a passport, that the ID wouldn't count, and that he was the one who would get in trouble if he got caught, etc, etc. I explained that I understood, it was fine, but I had been able to get alcohol with just the ID earlier that day, in that park, and it would be GREAT if the rule was consistent across all of Disney/Florida. And then after lecturing me for a good ten minutes, he ended up letting me get the drink anyways.....

I always carry a color copy of my passport with my drivers license. I'd never carry my passport around, the headache that follows when you lose it it's just too much.

The US is ridiculous about alcohol...a copy of a passport just to get a drink? So you have to show out of country ID and a passport photo? Just let people enjoy themselves on vacation.

Just to note, like many laws, what ID is required varies from state to state. Plus, Disney World is private property so probably can demand to see ID of whatever kind they want.

Georgia finally had a law passed late last year to allow Sunday alcohol sales.
This is done at the community level so you can have side by side communities and you can get alcohol on a Sunday in one and not at the next. Also, Sunday sales are officially listed as starting at noon. However, none of the stores around my house do that but start at 12:30 just in case the store's clocks are off. You always have to show ID at Kroger but never at Wal-Mart.

on both my credit cards it says in fairly large type, right by the signature line "Not Valid Unless Signed"

I used to work retail.

I had both extremes..I did ask. One person got SNIPPY with me when I refused to take the card since it was not signed and they rather haughtily refused to show me a DL.. despite the letters CID on the sig line.. ( and no her intials were not CID)

and another time a customer gushed all over thanking for actually asking....

no vendor has to take a card that is not signed.. in fact it specifically states ON The back of the card that it is NOT valid if not signed. I also refused to take a blank card as well unless they also showed my their DL or other ID with a signature I could match.. again, had somebody get snippy with me when he signed it in front of me but wouldn't give me a DL to verify

we were instructed to let 'see ID ' slide as long as they provided the(picture) ID
