The conventional wisdom has always been to "avoid MK on Saturday" in order to avoid the increased crowds on Gay Day (this year, June 4th). Well, I just checked their web site and here is their new schedule:
Thursday the 2d: Disney-MGM
Friday the 3rd: Epcot
Saturday the 4th: Isle of Adventure
Sunday the 5th: Magic Kingdom
Monday the 6th: Animal Kingdom
I've been told that except for the MK day, Gay Days don't add huge crowd to a park on the park's scheduled "day," but I thought I'd pass this along to anyone who cares.

Wow, that is a change! MK is crazy on Saturdays and so many families like to go on Saturdays, maybe that is why the change in schedule. Doesn't bother me one way of the other, but Thanks for the new information. :)

Thanks Missy pie. That changes some of my schedule a bit. I was planning on MK on Sunday to avoid crowds.

Hey shatzjsl--it looks like we are going to be in the World around the same time!! We will be there the 2nd-11th at BCV!! But I just checked the website (never too early to start planning) and it shows GayDay at MK is Saturday--here is a link:
http://gaydays.com/calendar/

So who's right here? Missypie or the GayDays website?
Going the 4th-11th...

mommystieg & sjams - looks like we will all be there together!

Hmmmm...there are two difference websites that have two different schedules. gayday.com and gaydays.com. A mystery.........

It's not a "mystery". GayDay.com (the originator of the "event") decided that "Disney" wasn't doing "enough", and Universal/IOA has made "promises", though nothing specific has been said what those "promises" are...so they made a decision to move Saturday to IOA. However, no one has made it clear exactly what Disney wasn't doing...I certainly never would expect to see a "WELCOME" banner or rainbow flags decorating the Main Street light poles...it wouldn't be Disney if they did that. - In fact I think it would be "tacky."

GayDays.com promotes and tickets their own events, and they have decided to stay with the more traditional schedule.

For what it's worth, I think Disney did absolutely what Disney is best at...treating every guest with equal respect. I don't care for IOA/Universal and will stick to the traditional schedule.

Well, if half the group is going to one park and the rest are going to another, that should keep the crowds down!

I think you'll probably see the "younger" crowd go to IOA for the thrill rides, and the more relaxed (ummm...older) traditionalists at MK, I'd also expect the family with kids and other family members to be at MK.

Thank you Missiepie. I think I will avoid MK on Saturday and Sunday either way.

I don't want to be left out of an almost all Texas thread :D
I sure hope I can convince my family that it is OK to brave the FL heat in June. After all, how different can it be than here?

Well, another Texas Resident here. Hello

Ive never been at that time but wouldnt really worry about it. I have just decided that anytime I go, I can plan on spending at least 30 mins waiting in standby lines if I dont have a fast pass. You can then be prepared for it. Sometimes you will be surprised, sometimes you wont.

This may not be a very nice thing to say, but... Why does there have to be days for certain people? What about Red heads day, or children with braces get in free day? Just go and have fun no matter who you are.

This will be our fourth trip in early June and the heat is not so bad but you can feel a difference in the humidity. I sweated in places I didn't know could sweat :scared: but I'd much rather be perspiring at WDW than in Texas :cool1:

Gay Days are not officially Disney events, but they do offer special perks, such as hotel discounts, to gay families and singles. It's obviously just a fun get together for a group of people who may or may not get to experience much contact with like minded people. I'm sure that groups like families of twins, and the like, have special days where they all get together to enjoy each others shared experience at Disney. My wife and I have been there during Gay Days and it really isn't a big deal. Heck we have gays days every day in New York...we call it Chelsea :D .

I've never been in June, but I had to pop in when I saw it was an almost all Texan thread!

Although I prefer to go to WDW when the weather's cooler, I wouldn't hesitate to visit during June or during Gay Days.

So, should we plan a Texas - Orlando road trip then? :cool1:

Thanks for the update! I was at MK last year during Gaydays and I have to say I loved it! Everyone seemed to be so happy and I loved seeing the really buff guys walking around in Mickey/Minnie wedding ears! Anyone know where they sell the Gaydays t-shirts? I'm going again the same time this year and would love one as a souviniere!
