In news breaking since Monday's Park Update, a new policy will restrict usage of Annual Passholder discounts. There will need to be at least one passholder in each room. This change was confirmed twice with Disney by Sue Pisaturo of Small World Vacations, MousePlanet's preferred travel provider. The policy is so new that not all cast members are aware of the policy yet. Existing reservations should not be affected.

Does that mean I can apply an AP rate if/when they come out for Oct on my current 3 rooms or only one?? Thinking for the end of Oct.

Please keep the answers on topic. No need to see this thread go downhill. Thank you.

I know this is the policy at USF resorts, so I'm not surprised to see Disney going that direction too. This would be a non-issue for us since both myself and hubby are long time AP holders, along with several of our kids and their kids. (Can't beat the DVC AP discount -- a shameless plug!) There are so many changes coming (or rumored to be coming) we can hardly keep up. Thank you disboards for providing us a place to meet and discuss these changes!!

yeah I mean we dont APs but have thought of getting them. THis kinda stinks for those that buy the AP because you could do this.

That's probably why they did it. So many people were just getting one AP and using it for discounts for the whole group that they are cracking down. People were getting AP rates on rooms who don't even have APs and then deciding if they'd get the AP if the discount worked out. It was making it hard for actual AP families to get the discount.

Don't forget the people who were only purchasing one child's AP in order to get the discount.

But the intended purpose of the Annual Pass is to provide 1 year of Theme Park admission. That is the only thing that Disney is required to provide with the Annual Pass. They do provide additional benefits such as complimentary parking, some dining discounts, and sometimes room discounts; however, these additional benefits are not the true purpose of the Annual Pass and are not guaranteed to be offered all the time.

Thankfully Disney closed this loophole when they introduced the Best Rate program. See, something good did come of the Best Rate Program. :)

Uh oh, this post confused me. My AP expired in May. I'm going back Sept 29th-Oct 7th (and getting free dining via the Bounce Back Program--so had to pay rack rate and get a pkg, of course). I'm also going back again Dec 8th-16th. When I get to WDW Sept 29th I'll be using the MYW ticket I had to buy (in order to get free dining for the Sept trip) to upgrade to another AP. However, I'm hoping to get an AP discount for my room in Dec and most people are saying that AP discounts for Dec should be coming out in late August. Does this new rule mean that since I won't have my AP until late Sept that I won't be able to book a room in late August for Dec using an AP discount? I will definitely have the AP to show when I check in in Dec and I plan on making the trips regardless if an AP discount comes out or not, so it's not like I'd be taking anything from another AP holder. I already have both trips booked and am just waiting for the AP discounts to be posted in order to finish paying off the last little bit of my Dec room.:confused3

I don't know. As of now you'll be fine. So far we don't know if they are going to crack down when making reservations. I imagine they'll be making sure at check in that there are as many adult passes as there are rooms.
