Please review the information posts stuck at the top of the DVC Rent/Trade Board for updated policies for that board.

Basically, the Rent/Trade Board is provided by the DIS as a classified ad area of the site. Discussion of details of DVC resorts and DVC policies are more appropriate on the DVC board itself. We intend to maintain the Rent/Trade Board only for members to post their willingness to rent reservations at DVC Resorts, for anyone interested in renting from a member an opportunity to make that request and for the transfer of points between members. Other comments and discussion will be removed.

We would encourage those wanting a reservation to post the dates, resort and room type they're interested in reserving and for members to try to secure that reseravtion by calling MS. For those members with existing DVC reservations, since points used for the reservation will be returned to your account upon cancellation, we do ask that you consider cancelling and allowing other members access to those dates.

We do realize that there are circumstances when it may be disadvantageous, due to banking deadlines and cancellation policies, to cancel an existing reservation. We will allow existing reservations to be posted no more than 6 months in advance of the arrival date and will allow one such offering to be active at any given time on the site. This policy should allow those who find their schedules change on short notice ample opportunity to rent that reservation or reuse those points for another date.

As always, members assisting others with a rental are welcome to secure a new reservation thru MS at any time (based on normal reseravtion priorities).

Thanks for your cooperation with these Rent/Trade policy modifications.

First the decision was made to split the DVC board into two taking allot of the fun out of reading the board. Before the split it was nice to be able to read trip reports, ask and answer DVC questions, and just talk about DVC in general all in one place. Since the split I rarely check the DVC community board, I hate looking back and forth between two places. Now the DVC forum is going to be filled with the one subject I could care less about, renting. I'm sorry but the fun is just gone from these boards, I liked it better when there were just the two. I have been checking these boards less often since the split, and before I saw this notice I was wondering what all the rent questions were doing here. I guess I'll still read through them once in a while, or post if I have a question but all the Magic's gone. :confused3

The Rent/Trade Board has been around for about 6 years and the needed addition of the DVC CB was made last fall - for a total of three DVC related boards.

Rental discussion has ALWAYS been limited to the DVC Forum and has never been allowed anyplace else- including the Rent/Trade Board. That is not a change from any prior policy. The only new policy involves the rental of existing reservations.

Sorry the DVC Forum isn't fun for you anymore, but the changes announced in this post have nothing to do with that. I hope you're able to find a site more to your liking.

Doc,
Although we have never rented out or rented points, based on concerns I have read on these boards, I applaud the decision to try to limit the practice of booking multiple hard-to-get ressies and then selling them on the R/T board. We should all be grateful for the free service that the R/T board provides and the willingness of moderators to try to make this service work well for all DVC members. Bravo!

I agree. It's amazing how BW standard view and BW view rooms are booked solid at around 10 1/2 months in advance. It doesn't a lot of other people a chance to ever get those rooms. Thanks Doc.

Just want the folks at the Dis-Boards to know it has done the opposite for me. I appreciate this move (and the Community Board) and thank you for doing both. More magic than ever in my opinion.:)

FWIW, I don't think the new policy is going to free up very many (if any) standard view or Boardwalk view rooms. I don't think that there are all that many SV or BV rooms being reserved in advance "on spec" relative to the number of members who want those room types.

I am one who calls day by day to get one of those rooms at the BWV and have no plans to stop reserving in that manner. The rooms are for my use, not rental. There are lots of us who post here that do the same. Anyone who expects to get a standard view or Boardwalk view without having to use the waitlist needs to do the same.

Those of us who are fortunate enough to be able to plan 11 months in advance and know what we want are the reason those rooms book up so quickly - there are not legions of speculators out there! JMHO. YMMV.

All that said, I am happy to see the changes - they seem to be in keeping with the spirit of the DISboards!

Best wishes -

We have both rented points and received transfer points found on the R/T board, and I appreciate the new changes. Thank you.
