Changes Coming (Again) to Akershus

Just to add My honest opinion - we were there last July for the Princess Breakfast, and had an AWESOME meal, and an AWESOME time (you can do a search and find many great experiences for breakfast!)

We loved the food, they start with fresh fruit, and cinnamon rolls - and juice etc... our server from Norway was extremely attentative, and talkative - DD was enthralled that she was from Norway, asked and received !! Seconds on the skillet, always plentiful - now I am a breakfast person, love eggs, potatoes... yum!!

We loved the Princess breakfast too (and I have two boys). The food was very good but,the waiter was pretty rude. Didn't care becasue, we had good food and character interaction. Princess Jasmine laid a big lipsick kiss on my 6 year old, it was priceless. Maybe they can just keep the breakfast and skip characters for lunch and dinner.

I found the food to be okay when we went in May. BUt here is is my dd's comments : mom why are we eating in the dungeon with the princesses when yesterday we ate in the castle. SHe also said to tell you guys not to go to the dungeon . She is 7 too funny!

I did the princess lunch in May and to my surprise it was one of my favorite meals. I eat very little meat and no seafood... i got the veggie tort and it's one of those meals that you can still taste months later.... I really wanted to go back and have it again... any chance it will be on the buffet if they change?

BTW.. I was not impressed with the princess interaction... about 20 seconds, enough for a picture and an autograph... no conversation wiht my daughter whatsoever...

Well I told dh yest. that it seems that the buffet is back on and he said yes, make a lunch reservation. Our 3 ds hate the food there so since they are teens they will do counter service somewhere. DH said he will ignore the big and little princesses just to eat the 5 kinds of herring again.

based on the limited I choices I have had for ADR's there - I would imagine the princesses aren't going anywhere -

we had breakfast there last October and LOVED it - we are having lunch in October so we can see Ariel

for those of you who don't want to see the princesses - when you arrive - politely tell your server - "the princesses don't need to come to my table - I can see there are many other princesses here that they can spend some extra time with" - this message should be conveyed to them and then you don't have to talk to them

also - as for it being a dungeon - I told my DD it was Snow White's cottage - she bought it (although she was only 3)

The unfortunate things though, are that even if the princesses didn't come by our table, we'd still have the louder atmosphere and the higher prices.

I really hope that Akershus goes back to the buffet. For my money, it was one of the best restaurants in EPCOT. My husband and I ate there several times while on various WDW vacations and both of us loved it. I have nothing against the princesses - and with a 3 year old DD will probably be learning to love them really soon - but if Akershus would do them just at breakfast, that would be fine with me.

I went by Akershus today and it was closed. I looked in and all the table were gone. I asked one of the CMs and was told they are doing a fast rehab, mostly paint and carpet.

However, they are bringing back the buffet!!!!!!! They plan to reopen this Wednesday or Thursday. They will still have the Princesses (Boo!) but maybe we will have good food again.

Anyone have an idea what this will do to the breakfast menu? We have an ADR next month and I was looking forward to a non-buffet character breakfast.
Was it a buffet at breakfast before? If so, was it American breakfast fare or Norwegian? I am going to be a little disappointed if the breakfast is changing too. I don't think my picky eaters will go for unfamiliar breakfast foods. If this is the case, I have a feeling I am going to regret cancelling my CRT breakfast in favor of this one....

Akershus did not have breakfast originally. They started serving it when they began as a princess venue, so there's nothing for it to change back to.

Ok, dumb question here!

When you say that Akershus is switching back to the original buffet...do you mean the cold buffet, followed by hot items that you order from your server? I ate there in Nov 2004 and that was the system. We enjoyed it very much, I would have been happy with just the cold buffet, actually! It was awesome!

So now...will there be a cold buffet AND a hot buffet? I would like that better, as you could only order one hot item at a time from the server, and I like to take little tastes of lots of different items.

Wow-this is great news! We love the "old" Akershus. It's been our fav. restaurant. Even my very picky 20 yr. old niece found enough things to eat. (She's a former vegan and I worried she wouldn't find enough to eat-she did-she even ate the duck sausage and loved the venison! (former? menu items).

Adding the princesses to the meal will keep my DD6 happy. We're having her birthday meal there on the 19th. I understand the changes take place today, the 14th. We've had the breakfast there twice, but am looking forward to our late lunch/early dinner on the 19th. I'll post about it when we return.

Less than 24 hours and counting!!!!!!!!! :grouphug: :cheer2:

When I asked the CM out front on September 5th, 2005, she said the hot and cold buffet. For many years, since it first opened I believe, Akershus had a hot and cold buffet. It had items like meatballs, whitefish, red cabbage with caraway seeds, buttered boiled red potatoes on the hot side, and items like eggs in mayonnaise with mini-shrimp, cucumber salad in vinegar, potato salad, cold white-meat chicken, and Krisp Bread on the cold side (I mentioned some of my all-time favs here :) ). You then had a choice of a full-size dessert at an additional cost (like Rice Cream, a sponge-cake with berries, etc).

When I mentioned some of these items to the CM, she said that yes they would be back in the buffet. ... but I guess we will find out for sure tomorrow! I really, really, really hope they bring back the original buffets... whether princesses are there or not I could care less. I can politely say hello and go away to them, if needed. princess:

Ohhhhh! I am hoping and praying for the old buffet!!! I will be back in October and will eat there everyday for lunch if the old buffet is back....I'm not kidding! :teeth:

Where can I find a possible menu for all these changes.

Okay....this question has been asked twice but not been answered...If indeed the buffet returns, how will this affect the breakfast? Since I have an ADR there in a few weeks, I'd love to know if there will be a change in the menu...TIA :flower:

Hi MickeyMouseMom! :wave2:

I do not know for sure, but I think what I saw, either on this thread or a similar thread, is that since they never had breakfast before, there is nothing to change. In other words...the breakfast will remain the same as it is now...complete with Princesses!

I may be wrong, but that is what I have heard...maybe someone else knows a bit more...hope this helps!

Well, allearsnet says they've officially changed the name of the place to Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, so there's most likely going to be princesses.

Nothing about the menu, though.

Should we be calling it ARBH?

Wow...so many negs here...I am all for the princess thing..I have 2 little girls...and we have PS for our Dec trip. I do hope the breakfast is good too. :earsgirl:

Okay, just returned last night. Had Princess lunch on the 19th. Here's the scoop. The cold buffet has returned. :cool1: The hostess who sat us had only been there for 2 weeks so when I asked her if they had returned to the old menu, she said no, it's a new one. She hadn't been there for the previous menu.

The major difference between the Princess Lunch and the prevous non-princess lunch is that you only get to order 1 entree. (When I made the ADR they said it was unlimited-I guess it changed) The cold buffet is exactly like it was before. Same salads, cheeese, fish, breads, etc. The entree sizes have increased to a regular serving size versus the smaller portions from before. The desserts are served family style. The food is just as good as before and since we had the latest lunch seating time available (3:05-our choice) we did not feel rushed as we have previously at the breakfast. I had the pasta with salmon and my mom had the lamb. Very good. DD had the cheese ravioli. She's a small eater but almost wolfed hers and asked if that was all. I mentioned this to our server and he said she could have more but she said she was fine.

Love the rice cream and the mousse! The lingonberry tart was just okay.

We saw Belle, Jasmine, Aurora, Ariel (with feet), and surprisingly-Cinderella.
