I went by Akershus today and it was closed. I looked in and all the table were gone. I asked one of the CMs and was told they are doing a fast rehab, mostly paint and carpet.

However, they are bringing back the buffet!!!!!!! They plan to reopen this Wednesday or Thursday. They will still have the Princesses (Boo!) but maybe we will have good food again.

We haven't ate there yet, but were going to go ahead and give it a try when we go. I had heard a lot of negative, so hopefully this will be a positive change. My husband is half-Norwegian, and we've visited there before, so it'll be interesting to compare this with what they have there.
Thanks for the info! :goodvibes

Oh, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let them bring back the original buffet . . . . . . :cheer2:

I think they needed to do something because the breakfast meal was nothing to brag about. (my personal opinion only).

I agree. Our breakfast in July was yucky and the server was rude. She brought out the small skillet for three people. We had tables around us that were getting the large skillet for two people! When we were finished with the skillet, she acted almost put out that she needed to bring us another one, not to mention refill out drinks.

Maybe they'll get the hint and the princesses will magically disappear for lunch and/or dinner.

We were there last week. The breakfast was horrible. Usually you can't get a bad breakfast but this one was. I hope they make a positive change. I'm also glad to read I was not the only one who thought the food was bad.

Oh this is sweet music to my ears, saying this as mouth is watering... Do you know if it will be the original offerings from the original buffet for lunch and dinner or some scaled down smaller version etc. If they bring back the original food I think I can even convince dh to get back in there again for all that pickled herring. We will concentrate on the food and not the characters and the dde card discount will be great too. Oh joy.

Does anyone have a copy of the original buffett menu? We are eating there on Oct 1. What was served at the original buffett?

Thanks

We spoke to a CM at the bakery last month, and she said the same thing - we may go back now, if they have the buffet. I was waiting to hear if anyone else heard the same thing, in case it was a rumor, but the refurbs seem to confirm it.

I"ve been wanting to check this out, maybe we'll go also since it's back to the buffet... Or I'll cheat and see what everyone says first!

Yea!!!! DH will be so happy if it is the original buffet. We were going to book lunch or dinner at christmas. At least we will get a good meal again! I can deal with the princesses cause the boys love them.

As the mother of a young daughter, I certainly hope not! We were there for my DD's 6th birthday and the character interaction was one of the best of dozens of character meals in the past 8 years. The food was also ... OK. Not the greatest, but still good. I had the lamb and my DH the cod.

Just to add My honest opinion - we were there last July for the Princess Breakfast, and had an AWESOME meal, and an AWESOME time (you can do a search and find many great experiences for breakfast!)

We loved the food, they start with fresh fruit, and cinnamon rolls - and juice etc... our server from Norway was extremely attentative, and talkative - DD was enthralled that she was from Norway, asked and received !! Seconds on the skillet, always plentiful - now I am a breakfast person, love eggs, potatoes... yum!!

I think I will go ahead and make and ADR ... hopefully it does change ... if not I can always cancel a couple weeks before i leave. :sunny: Thanks for the info.

I think I may try to get an ADR for our trip, too. We have an ADR for lunch at CRT but my oldest DD really wanted to see Ariel (with her legs, LOL). I didn't bother making an ADR at Akershus since my DH did not like any of the meal choices.

Wow, wouldn't that be awesome? Now I will have to find a place to squeeze lunch or dinner in, already made our ADRS but for the buffet to come back, well, I will find an opening!

We went to the breakfast last November and it was very good. We had an excellent server who joked with us a lot and was very attentive. The food was good and princesses friendly. Looking forward to lunch next month. :)

We have an ADR for lunch on 12/2 at 1pm. DD, DS, and DS are all three Princess freaks, so we're definitely keeping this meal. DH and I aren't thrilled with the menu (he eats no seafood or fish) and just planned on eating a CS meal afterwards! :rotfl: Maybe the buffet will appeal to us more! Can anyone tell me about the original menu for the lunch buffet?

Thanks!

I would also love to hear what was on the original buffet.

The cm I made my adr's with last week (who was sooo friendly and seemed very knowledgeable about stuff) said they have "Americanized" the food a lot there. Do you think that means with the refurb they are going back to more Norweigan type foods? I would like to try it, I just wonder if my boys will eat it? (we're going for lunch). So what was on the original buffet?
