so, long story short, our plans have changed.
I bought my DH the Richard Petty Driving Experience for Xmas and he wants to use it at Atlanta Motor Speedway, on our way to WDW.
So, the new plan is as follows....
We depart our home in Maryland (in our motorhome) on Wednesday, March 7th early in the AM. We live close to 81 south and will take 81 south to 77 south towards Charlotte to 85 south to 75 south. Mapquest shows this as a 10.5 hour drive so I'm thinking we will be able to do it in about 12 hours. We don't stop to eat, just fix sandwiches when we stop for gas at some point.
We will spend the night in Atlanta and DH has to be at the track at 11:30 on Thursday morning. He will finish up around 4 pm. We want to get back on the road and try to make it as close to Disney as possible before we stop for the night. Again, Mapquest shows about a 6.5 hour drive from Atlanta Motor Speedway to Fort Wildreness. So, I'm hoping to get at least as far as 2 hours from Disney before we stop.
Our reservations at Fort Wilderness start on March 9th through the 17th. I'm hoping to arrive by 11 AM or so, register, get our golf cart, explore a little before our 1:30 reservation for Whispering Canyon. If we have not been able to get to our site and set up before our lunch ressie, we will do so immediately after lunch and then head to MK for the late afternoon and evening.
Here are my questions:
Camping around Atlanta Motor Speedway?
Camping about 2 hours out from Disney? (we are not opposed to just stopping at a Flying J either of these nights as long as we can find one)
Better routes of travel?
Any opinions at to whether this will all work?
I checked the website for Alanta Motor Speedway and see that there are a number of camping options but they seem to be just for a race weekend.
Any help, input, advice, or opinions are greatly appreciated!
TIA,
Natalie
