Change number people on ADR

We just had a medical emergency in our family (with our great grandfather), meaning it'll likely be impossible for my parents in law to join us to wdw in august.
Now luckily our great grandfather has recovered quite well, but our parents in law will need to cancel their trip with us to keep an eye on him.
I made all our ADR with my parents in law in mind, including all the difficult to get ones like BOG and CRT. Now do you think i'll need to try to rebook them and cancel my exisiting ADR, which means i'll likely lose them since we got them at pretty coveted hours; or do you think i can change the number of people on my ADR? Do you think i could call disney to explain and ask them for assistance?

You don't need to change anything. If you show up with fewer people there's no penalty.

Or if not able to do that, call in to lower the number of people in party.

You don't have to explain it. Increasing the number of people is hard, decreasing is easy.

Is that true for CRT and the pre-paid meals also?

It is very easy now for most restaurants to change the number of people in your ADR. No need to do it now, but I would do it closer to your trip if you are certain they won't be joining you. Just go into MDE and click on the reservation and you will be able to modify the number of people. This used to be something you had to call for, but they just updated MDE and now allow guests to modify the number of guests. Much easier than calling.

Decreasing is generally easy. BUT the system may look for a smaller table if the table size would change.
