Chances of Standard BWV Studio this December?--UPDATE

For the pp who stated I could do the regular DDP for the 3 nights, here's the problem with that. I have several TS meals reserved including the CP (which is 2 credits) and Yachtsman (2 credits). I don't want to give up either of these, which I would have to do with the regular plan since I would have only 3 TS credits. I would also be giving up Liberty Tree Tavern and Chefs de France. I really don't want to give them up either. Plus the regular DDP does not include appetizers which I love. Don't think I haven't thought about the route, but I just can't part with these ressies.

That was my suggestion. We've never done the dining plan, so I didn't realize that appetizers were included in the DxDP. I certainly understand your desire to keep everything as is. I wish I had a simple solution for you - but I don't. I wish you luck in making this all come together. I hope something perfect works out for you!

Thank you for understanding. Not everyone over on the mouscellaneous forum is as understanding as you. :sad2: Wish they had just a little bit of empathy. I'm sure everything will work out, probably won't be perfect, but nothing is. I just wish I wasn't told one thing, spent numerous hours planning, then told, nope, we decided not to let you do it. Very frustrating.

I would book the AKV standard if it is still available. Switching rooms isn't that bad and it is worth it to be able to get your dining ressies you already have booked. I would also keep calling back to try and get BWV. You only need one night, you never know what will show up!! Good luck :)

Congratulations on the new baby!

:thumbsup2 Thanks :)

Make sure to waitlist it too! I had far better luck with waitlists than with calling.

Agreed... switching rooms isn't that bad and it's better to get what you can and try for something else later! :thumbsup2

Well, I just called and waitlisted for a BWV Standard studio for the night of December 20th. I know my chances are pretty slim, but it's worth a try. I will have to borrow 1 point from my 2012 UY. I started to book an AKV Standard studio, but I decided to wait since I would have to borrow 3 points. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but when you have only 100 points, it is. Plus there is a slight chance I will have to cancel the trip altogether, so I would hate to have extra points stuck in my 2011 UY and have only until May 31, 2012 to use them. I'm a teacher, and there's not a lot of opportunity to use them between December and May. I'm still considering changing to the AKV Standard studio, but MS told me there was availability at both Kidani and Jambo, so I'm thinking I still have time to do that. Who knows, maybe they will come back and say, "Sure we will honor the segmented trips. You can add DDP to one of your segments." Fat chance, I know, but I can dream. And who knows, maybe my BWV waitlist will come through, and I won't have to change to AKV Standard. As it gets closer to time, then I will decide exactly what I want to do. But right now, I'm just going to wait and see. Wish me luck on my waitlist! I need some pixie dust!

OP - I don't think your chances are great, but a waitlist can't hurt. Another suggestion is to just get the regular DDP for all three nights. Maybe you can rearrange your credit usage, eat some counter service instead of TS; you can maybe pay OOP for a reservation you really want to keep with the money you saved on the DDP. Can that work? I am hoping you find a good solution without having to mess up your hotel reservations.

Congratulations on the new baby!

You have no chance of scoring a room at BWV. You can probably get a room at SSR or OKW. I know, I tried. I'm staying at OKW. The weeks right before the holidays are Prime Time with DVC Owners..Good luck though.

I had a 3 night reservation for OKW for the start of December, the middle night I had to pay CASH because DVC rooms were not available. I did a waitlist for the middle night, it came through after only 4 days.

I purposely chose OKW because it had the best odds of my waitlist coming through......

It feels good to use 13 points (studio) instead of paying $275 :scared1: for one night.

I am very happy to have my reservation secure, NOW I will waitlist for BLT and keep my fingers crossed! It doesn't hurt to try!

I only made these arrangements last Saturday, by Tuesday the points room had come through on the waitlist.

Trying something like this may work out better for you.

Good luck and I do hope it comes through. Just remember though, that availability changes often and the rooms that were there today could be gone tomorrow. I know you are already frustrated with the way they changed things without notice and don't want to see another layer added if you decide to take AKV, only to find those gone too.

Here is some pixiedust: that it all works out for you!

Yes, I definitely realize I could lose out of getting an AKV Standard studio. It is such a gamble, and I'm NOT a gambler! But I would hate to cancel the value studio, borrow the extra points to get the standard, and then my BWV waitlist come through in like a week! That would be my luck. So I think I'm willing to chance it for a while. It just felt like the right thing to do, you know, that gut instinct.

I hope you get the studio. :wizard: We just booked a preferred view studio at the Boardwalk for next Easter. I can't wait!

I would suggest doing the standard studio at Jambo House for your last night. I like to split up our stays between studios and 1BR's (it helps stretch those 100 points:thumbsup2) and it is very easy. We have bell services come up and pick up our luggage. Then, we go to the check in desk and "check in" for our new room. We head off to the park and when we return in the evening, we grab our bags from bell services and head up to our new room.

If the standard studio at Jambo (or even Kidani would work too) is still available, I would book it and not bother with the waitlist at BWV. You would not be saving any points since those extra 2 borrowed points (for the AKV studio) would end up going to waste anyway.

Yeah, but I would rather lose the 10 points for the BWV than the 12 points for the AKV Standard if I have to cancel the trip. Plus I have never stayed at the BW and would love to try it. I think I will wait a little while longer to see what happens, and then try to book the AKV Standard. I may miss out, and if I do, I will probably cancel my CP package and just do the regular DDP for the 3 nights.

I really appreciate all the suggestions! It helps me to think about all my options.

Gotcha....I must have misinterpreted your post....I thought you were going to cancel 1 night in your value studio (9 points) and re-book a BWV std (10 points) or a std AKV studio (12 points). That's why I thought you'd only need to borrow 2 points. Yup, for all 10 or 12, I would reconsider my dining plans too.

Good Luck!:hippie:

Hi,

You've expressed concerns about borrowing from the next use year and the possiblity of having to cancel the trip and not being able to use the borrowed points. Another option available to you is to purchase a DVC point or two from member services ..Perhaps this option would allow you to book the AKV standard view now and then wait list for BWV standard view. Here are the rules ..

As a Disney Vacation Club Member, occasionally you may find yourself in need of just few extra vacation points in order to book that perfect dream vacation. Previously, this required borrowing vacation points from a future use year, but very recently a new alternative was introduced. They're called "one-time-use" vacation points and are available for a fee of $15 ($13.33 plus $1.67 tax) per vacation point. Availability of one-time-use vacation points may be limited or suspended from time to time, and the fee is subject to change.

Details:
One-time-use vacation points are vacation points available for Disney Vacation Club Members to use as an alternative to borrowing vacation points from the following use year's allotment.
You can obtain a maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points once per use year per membership.
A maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points are processed in a single transaction, not multiple transactions.
The fee for one-time-use vacation points is $15 (including tax) per vacation point, and is subject to change.
One-time-use vacation points expire according to the use year of the reservation booked and are non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be banked or borrowed.
One-time-use vacation points are not available for waitlist reservations.
One-time-use vacation points cannot be applied retroactively to existing reservations.
One-time-use vacation points are only available for Members whose contract is closed and in good standing.
One-time-use vacation points are available only for Disney Vacation Club Resorts, Disney Collection*, Adventurer Collection* and World Passport Collection reservations.
* Available when you purchase directly from Disney.
One-time-use vacation points used for Disney Vacation Club resort reservations can only be used up to 7 months prior to arrival.
One-time-use vacation points for Disney Collection, Adventurer Collection and World Passport reservations can be used according to the booking guidelines for each individual collection.

Sorry I'm confusing you. I'm actually confusing myself.

I have 3 nights in a value studio booked, two segments of 2 nights and 1 night. To get the DxDDP for the first 2 nights only, I will have to cancel the last night in the value studio and book another room type. I have no 2011 points left, so I will have to borrow from 2012 (or buy the one-time use points as Peggy Sue suggested). I hate to borrow 3 points when there's the possibility (however slight) that I could just have to borrow 1 point for the BWV Standard studio. I know it's just 2 points, but I may need those 2 points later. Plus I really want to try out BWV.

If I have to cancel my trip, I will not know until a couple of weeks out. My points will go into holding, and it would be very difficult to use them before the end of my 2011 UY. So I would probably lose the 27 2011 UY points as well as the borrowed 3. So it probably won't make much difference.

I'm now leaning toward giving my BWV waitlist 2 weeks, then trying to book an AKV Standard studio. Three points are not worth giving up the CP package!

Thanks to everyone for following this crazy thread! I never knew 3 points would drive me so crazy!

.....(snip)...... I never knew 3 points would drive me so crazy!
Even one point has been endowed with the ability to make sane people crazy. It's just the nature of the beast. We all understand! :teeth:

I myself once made a considered, conscious decision to sacrifice 5 points so that I wouldn't have to change rooms for the last night of my stay. (It's complicated, but involved the waitlist and me not willing to gamble on it working, LOL).

I knew well ahead of time that those 5 points would go into holding and that I would not be able to use them if the waitlist worked. I accepted that. I told myself that 5 points was the price for my peace of mind. (I am a pretty big believer in insurance in my non-Disney life). It made prefect sense. I waited and hoped for the waitlist to work. Checked every day.

And then the waitlist worked and the points went into holding. :scared1:

Those darn 5 points in holding worked together and did their utmost to drive me crazy.:crazy: Almost did something stupid to save them several times.:crazy: Those points did NOT want to die without fulfilling their mission.

But in the end, they expired and now I am well again. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I love this story, Carol. It is comforting to know that there are other DVC obsessives lying awake at night.

Yes, you would not believe how often I fell asleep chanting, "Do not throw good points after bad", "Do not throw good points after bad", "Do not throw good points after bad","Do not throw good points after bad".

My poor (retired) DH said he would gladly go back to work to earn the "#@#@ $50" if I would just BE QUIET and go to sleep!

This thread has become very entertaining!
I had 9 points expire , while in holding last year......also, when my mom purchased her contract she had 54 points that needed to be used.....and they ended up expiring! :scared1: 54 points would make me nuts.

I was tempted to put the points up here on the DIS, and give them away to anyone that needed them, but hesitated because I was concerned about using my one annual transfer on a stranger........ just in case my mom or sister need them later.
