Chances of getting an AKL value waitlist?

I was on the ball and reserved our two bedroom value room at AKL for the end of next May for DBF, DD, DS, myself, and DBF's mom and sister. Then, two weeks later, DBF's mom and sister (who are teachers) told us the following week would work much better and pretty well ensure they could go. I logged onto the member site, but the first week of June is booked up for value 2 bedrooms. I called and did a wait list that will cancel our reservation the last week of May, but how realistic is it? I know we have quite a bit of time before then, but what are the odds that the whole week will open up at once to let the waitlist go through? I just didn't want to spend the extra points to move to a regular 2 bedroom. Thanks!

I hate to say it, but it's very unlikely. Tere are very few available in the value category to begin with.

Although it may be surprising to hear, all of my single-night AKV value waitlists have come through. Do you have enough points to book a 2-bedroom reservation and pick up value nights as they come available? Perhaps, over the next several months, you will be able to piece together a full reservation?

In three weeks, I have been able to secure 4 consecutive nights in a BLT standard studio for a December trip. I think it may be possible to piece together a complete reservation, or at least a split stay at AKV, if you are persistent with checking availability. It has been working well for me.

Good luck!

I was able to piece together to separate AKV reservations - one a value and the other a savannah view 2 bedroom. But I don't think it would have come through on the Disney waitlist. I checked the website several times a week and several times a day on days I could check and pieced it together myself.

No, we don't have enough points to do both. I would have to give up the value to try to do one night at a time. DBF's mom and sister have never been on a "vacation", so we are doing a trial run with them this Sept with a 3 day cruise and one night at AKL to go to MNSSHP. If they love it, I will worry more about changing it all around and worse case, we drop one night off and switch to a standard 2 bedroom. I just like that by booking the value, we have a guarantee that we will be close to the lobby and not get stuck out in a "wing".

Curious...what is a value AKL room? Is it a different category under DVC booking?

They have value stuido, 1 bedroom, and 2 bedroom suites. As I understand it, they were rooms that were regular rooms at Jambo house which were converted into DVC rooms. They are smaller than other DVC rooms of the same size (the 1 bedroom only has 1 bathroom vs the regular DVC 1 bedroom has 2). They also sleep one person less than the other DVC rooms (Value 1BR sleeps 4 vs standard 1BR sleeps 5). They are cheaper in points, but there are not very many of them, so hard to get.

There are only 10 value two-bedrooms, and they are all lock-offs. That means that anyone who has booked a one-bedroom or studio has removed a two-bedroom from inventory. It seems extremely unlikely that a two-bedroom would open up. You could keep an eye on studio and one-bedroom availability to see if "half" of the room is available. That's not only one of the rarest room types, but also one of the most desirable, so, in my opinion, it's extremely unlikely that a waitlist would come through. I'd start looking at alternatives.
