Chances of Getting a King Bed at Pop Century?

My fiance and I are planning on staying at Pop Century. We would be much more comfortable in a king bed, although we will be fine if we can't get one. Does anyone know if we would have a better chance of getting one if we request a preferred room?

Nope. I mean, I do know - and the type room you book won't make a difference.

There are about 156 king beds at Pop Century (actual number is either 153, 157, or 158). There are 2,880 rooms total. That means that just over 5% of the rooms have king-size beds. Therefore, your chance of getting a room with a king bed is slightly better than one in twenty.

We got one. It was nice. I didn't know the odds were so poor. I think at the moderates you can reserve a king-bedded room. You may want to consider upgrading so you can be guaranteed a king room.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents and say that the odds of getting a king room are not strictly based on the percentage of King Rooms available, but on the number of people who request them. Many of the families staying at Pop Century do not want a King Room and won't fit in one. So, if there are 150 King Rooms and only 300 parties request one, your odds of getting one may actually be 1 in 2. So, I think there is more than a 1 in 20 chance of getting one. :)

Last year i got one and it was my son and myself at POP. I immediately went to the desk to be reassigned. After a while, they finally agreed to move me to a double room even though the resort was full (easter week). The reservation was clear it was one adult and 1 10 year old. I don't know if I need to specially request NO king bed, but i hate to be put in this situation (and the extra time wasted to resolve). It was a preferred room that was booked and was book about 7 months in advance.

Oh, and we had to downgrade to standard to get the double room which i didn't feel was right.

Thanks for asking this question. I'm guessing that when I talked to my CM he made notes. I'm assuming they would put us in a room with a King bed since we'll be celebrating our honeymoon 3 years late.

We had no problems getting a king room they were actually happy to give us on since they needed the 2 double beds. Good Luck it never hurts to ask!

We have stayed at POP 3 times. First time we requested King in 50's section and received it (facing pool). Next time I had requested King in 50's and they had neither any 50's rooms, nor King rooms available when we arrived, so we were in double in 60's facing water (actually really liked this area). Last time I did not request anything and were given double in 90's facing pool (not my fav area).

From what I understand, the King rooms are also the handicap rooms (someone please correct me if I am wrong). So the necessity for someone having it as a handicap room would no doubt take precedence.

I had a 6 night stay at Pop under 3 separate reservations--long story. Anyway, I was in 2 different room categories-preferred 1 night, standard 3 nights and preferred for the last 2 nights. I didn't want to have to switch rooms but they could not guarantee that I could stay in my first room. The CM told me my odds would improve if I asked for a king room since they are not so popular. I requested the king and was assigned a king in standard and never had to move. I did have to check in and out 3 times, however!!

We've stayed at POP twice, once in Dec and once in in Jan & got Kings both times. If you move up to a mod, you will not only pay the mod price but an additional $15/night for the king. Not that the mod isn't great, just warning you that it will cost you extra. :goodvibes

We've gotten the king room 9 out of 10 times we request it. Keep in mind that a king room can only have 2 people in it, so families are out. Also there are two types of king rooms. One with a bathtub and one with a roll-in shower. If you don't mine either of those rooms, your chances increase alot! Last year we had the one with a roll in shower, but it was only for a couple of nights. Normally I would prefer the tub.

Have never stayed at POP, but once I was told at CR that they had only 22 King Bed rooms. We requested King Bed, Theme Park View and were given the view. I was told that they'll try to give you the view over the bed first. The also mentioned that it was a "family" resort and that I shouldn't have been so surprised to received two queen beds. I wasn't upset, it was just something I never thought about before. Makes sense now.

My daughter and SIL went to POP for their honeymoon 6 years ago. They requested a King Bed. He is 6'3 and 220 lbs. They did not get it. They tried the whole week and were told no. This was at the end of July.

I've stayed at Pop 3 times and only gotten my
king request once. And that was my 1 night stay before moving over to CSR.
Good Luck!:goodvibes

Last year all I ask for was king bed, and got it, in the 90's normal room, with tub.
This year I'm asking for a preferred king bed room,
As I'm going solo, I hope that helps.

I got one ...twice..it was a Handicapped room, both times, the first time Last August I gave it to someone else in my party, this last time, I kept it...even though my DS 26 and I shared the bed!! It had a refrigerator, this is why I kept it!;)

Thanks for all the responses. I was told that all the king rooms were handicap rooms so I'm glad to hear that there are regular rooms with king beds also. For us, it is not worth the upgrade cost to move to a moderate this trip. I think we would be more comfortable with a king bed, but it is not necessary. I just wondered if my chances would be better in preferred over standard. Currently we have a preferred room and my only request is a king bed.

But honestly, we're just so excited to be going to Disney that we don't care where we sleep. :yay:

We are going this year with my husband in a huge knee brace and a wheelchair to tour the parks, after emergancy knee surgery. I didn't request a handicapped room but I did request a king bed (for extra room with the bum knee). When I received my confirmation, I clicked open and looked at the details on my ressie. It showed that I had requested a handicapped room. I called a CM she explained that all the king rooms are not handicap rooms but the only king rooms that are gaurenteed are for handicap. She did say that there were special notes on my account showing that my husband would be in a wheelchair to tour the parks so that would justify the requested handicap for a king bed. Does that make sense?:confused3 It was confusing to me, we didn't want to take away a handicapped accessable room from someone that would really need the roll in shower but we really need to have the king bed, so we will see what happens. We may have to sleep in 2 seperate beds, but we will if we have to.:thumbsup2
