Chances of booking VWL in Dec at 7 mo window?

I'm booked at the Beach Club for Dec 15-22, but hoping to switch to studio or 1 bdrm at Wilderness at the 7 mo window (May). Trying to get a sense of if this will work, because so many others in the group (non-DVC) are waiting for me to firm up my plans before they book. I've heard the Wilderness is very popular during holidays, & that it's a smaller resort. If anyone can give me a sense of what my chances are, I'd appreciate it.

The VWL at Wilderness Lodge are the smallest of all the DVC resorts with only 136 vacation homes, made up of Studios, 1-B/R and 2-B/R villas. At Christmas it is very popular. Since points are higher at Christmas, Studios get more popular since they are fewer points than 1-B/R units, etc.

In all honesty, your chances are probably extremely small. Best case you'd probably get on a waitlist, and even then you could be pretty far down the list as any VWL owners who tried at 8-10-months and failed to get a room, would already be on the list before you could even try, at the 7-month point.

Then if you got on the list, you probably wouldn't know for months whether you got a room or not.

It's doable - but there's no guarantee. You'll have lots of competition for the limited number of rooms that may be available. For the best chance, plan to call day by day as soon as MS opens. You may need to use the waitlist for any days not available on the first call.

Here is some encouragement;

Last year we booked VWL and switched to BCV at the 7 month window. Sadly we are just doing VWL this year (not both like last year), but there has to be someone like us who wanted BCV instead of VWL!

As others have said this will be tough. VWL is very small and is popular around the holidays. Call day y day and utilize the waitist for this one. Besides BCV isn't such a bad back up.

No, I know BCV is great. Walking home from Epcot after the f/works when the masses are headed for the buses is a great feeling! But we've stayed there for the last few yrs, & I was hoping for something new...Plus, lots of little nephews in the group & wanting to be close to MK make VWL ideal. My husband was hesitant about DVC for this reason, being locked into a particular resort....(altho saving $ is nice, too)....

Lots of us would love to know the end result. I hope you get the switch! Then there's the possibility of switching ressies with a VWL owner next year.
I guess I never thought that by buying into DVC we were limiting ourselves to one resort, but on some level, it could be that, I suppose.
