I'm hosting New Years Eve and I'm looking for a good champagne to have on hand. I'm clueless... any thoughts?

Thanks!!!

Can't help you on quality -- I love any kind of champagne. Make sure you have peach schnapps available and you can make Bellinis. Yum.

It depends on your budget. Korbel makes a nice one that is very inexpensive. If you want even cheaper, frexenet is decent for the price. A little bit pricier, Moet is good. That's what we usually have for parties. The good stuff (dom, etc) we save for just the two of us.

You could do an interesting champagne bar, actually. Have some different berries or stuff like chambord or peach schnapps to add to the champagne. yum!

I don't what champagne normally costs but I guess I would spend up to $25 for a bottle. The champagne bar sounds really cool... thanks!!!

you could probably find moet on sale for around $30 right now. Korbel should be around $10-$15 depending on type I'd say, its been a while since I bought it. Depending on how many bottles you plan on buying, you could also have different types...brut, very dry, sweet.

I could go on and on. lol. sorry about that...I love champagne, have since I was a teen (shhh, don't tell mom).

Don't know if you are planning on serving them, but choc. covered strawberries are really good and very easy to make, and would go nicely with the champagne.

hmmm...what time should I be there? hehehe.

I also vote for B :wave2: rut korbel.

This is what we always buy too. Drinking that with our neighbors finally got her to stop buying the Andre that she used to bring over, gag!!!!!!

I like the Moet & Chandon White Star...just about $20-25 I think but it tastes more expensive!!! Perrier Jouet in the flower bottle is pretty too if you are doing a champagne bar!

Stay away from Ballatore unless you're going to mix itwith something. A festive Christmas drink is 4 parts champagne to one part cranberry juice. Garnish with fresh cranberries.

We usually buy Martini & Rossi Asti or even a Tosti Asti seems to go over well, but then again this is the crowd (DH's family) that I seen buy Cold Duck. YUCK!!!

Those two you can usually find in the $8 to $15 range depending on the sale.

I was at the packy last night and bout moet on sale for $24.99

I agree. The Perrier Jouet is a wonderful champagne, but out of the budget--I prefer it to many vintages of Dom. The Moet White Star is a decent champange for the price.

One way to stretch the budget is to offer Mimosa's and Bellini's in place of actual champagne except at midnight. They can be made with a less expensive champagne (I wouldn't go too low end though). Add a strawberry garnish and they look very festive!

We've been trying to find a less expensive good champagne for a while..... On Thanksgiving we hit paydirt with a "Francois Montand" - we had the Blank de Blancs Brut at <$13 and it was GREAT! This is made in the "methode traditionnelle" FWIW. Our local wine store recommended it and I've gotta say they know their stuff. To us it compares favorably with champagne in the $25-30 range (but YMMV).
Happy Holidays!

You know what I got???

I like Beringer wine and they had a sparkling Zinfandel for 12.99 at my local grocery store. Not bad...already had some, hehehehe.

I like Korbel and Martini & Rossi Asti, but I am not much of a wine/champagne drinker.

Chateau Ste Michelle makes some very good bubbly in various levels of sweetness and runs around $15.00. Chandon Extra Dry Riche is yummy too for around the same price.

I think they also go by Extra Brut (the dryest, least sweet), Brut, Extra Dry, Sec, and Demi Sec, (the extra dry to Sec being medium sweet) and Demi Sec (the sweetest option).

I'm thirsty now.
Me, too! I could go for some Champagne and Chambord right now!!! I wonder if my boss would mind??!!??!! :rotfl:

I asked this morning if we were closing early or closing tomorrow. We did our exchange and we all got some form of booze.

At least in Indiana, is Gruet, a sparkling wine from New Mexico. Usually about $18 / bottle in Chicago area. Very good, and dry.
Perrier Jouet in the non-flowered bottle at $35 is a steal. My favorite.
