I have just come to find in my ripe older middle age that I love champagne. Is there anywhere in the world to enjoy some without breaking my bank/pocketbook? Oh yeah and the sweeter the better. :goodvibes

Also I see sparkling wine listed at Narcoosees is that like champagne, I hate regular wine unless it is very sweet and very cold.

If you like sweet, you may want to try the Banfi Rosa Regale. They sell it by the glass in Italy and you may see it on some restaurant menus. YUM!!

Regina can you recommend anything at Narcoosees. Or anyone who likes this sort of champagne/wine type thing. I want to order a bottle for my big 40th birthday bash. Nothing over $75 per bottle if possible.

You can get champagne by the glass in France at EPCOT, and Prosecco (a lot like champagne) in Italy. YUM-O!!!

I'm a big fan of the Iron Horse Fairy Tale Cuvee, but it's dry, not sweet. (The Rosa Regale is the only sweet wine that I like.)

I'm not sure of what they have at Narcoossee's, but the staff is very knowledgeable. DH really likes reds and always asks for recommendations. He's never been disappointed.

One thing to remember is only the effervescent wines produced in the Champagne region of France can legally call themselves Champagne. This is because they use a specific yeast that is native to that area and are subject to specific wine-making regulations.

Other countries and regions have equivalent - like Prosecco from Italy. In America, they are simply referred to as sparkling wines. If you see one on a menu, go for it, but make sure you ask if it is brut or dry - not what you are looking for if you are wanting a sweet sparkling wine. (Many of the champagnes produced in France are actually very dry.)

All of the restaurants that serve a good wine list have a sommelier on staff (and many waiters are trained sommeliers). Ask your waiter and they will consult with that specialist!

DW and I were at Food and Wine in 06, and the French pavilion had a sparkling wine with "creme de cassis" like a black current. This was absolutely delicious. Nice and sweet, but not too much so.

You guys are awesome:banana: Thanks for all the tips. I am getting so excited. Eventhough I am turning 40. :rotfl:

I thought I read somewhere that there is a booth for France at F&W that has Champagne and Chocolate....now you know where to find me on Friday.

Hope you enjoy your 40th! My sisters have both celebrated theirs this year.

I am not sure how I am going to be taking my birthday on Friday.....

I'm pretty sure you can purchase the Rosa Regale by the bottle in Italy. Also by the glass.

White wine with creme de cassis added is called Kir. When it's added to sparkling wine it's called a Kir Royale. Either way it makes a great apertif.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: When you referred to yourself as "ripe older middle age" I thought 60. As someone who just turned 55, 40 is not even close to middle age. :rotfl: :rotfl:
