Just wondering how many people here get chalazions in their eye lids, and how many people have had one removed.

For a while I had them often. Dr said some people are just prone to them. I don't wear eye makeup because of it, but I do wear contacts. Usually they eventually just go away. Once I needed an ointment. I've been getting these for well over 15 yrs I think.

But I've got one right now that doesn't seem to want to go away with ointment. And I'm sort of bad at putting hot compresses on it several times a day.

Starting to think maybe I should have it removed instead. Haven't looked to see if its covered by insurance.

Its in office, right? Can't cost all that much if its not covered.

Is it a little white knot under a very thin piece of skin? It kinda looks like a zit that's not red? I had one once when I was dumb, vain, and in high school... :sad2: (do not try this at home!) I poked and pulled it with forcep-type tweezers. It came off...:rolleyes1

My d had one when she was 4. She had surgery to have it removed b/c it was starting to affect her vision. It was in the hospital but was a quick procedure...maybe 20 minutes. She was put out under general anesthesia and we brought her home after a couple of hours. All was fine. This was 11 years ago. Good luck.

Yes, that sounds about right. I'm a poker & proder too, but can't imagine attempting to remove this yourself. Yikes. :scared1:

All I'm going to say is you would be amazed at what you can find videos of on youtube.

I've had three removed over the years. It doesn't take very long except the last one I had was huge and the doctor had a hard time getting it out. He did a very good job because I had almost no bruising.

He didn't put me under although I wish he had. There's nothing like seeing a needle to numb out your lid that close to your eyeball.:scared1:

I have had one on each eye removed. It was a very easy thing and done with a local in the doctors office. Yes it was covered under insurance.

The worst part about the whole thing was they put an ointment on it afterwards which made it greasy so a band aid wouldn't stick and it did bleed. I walked about with a bleeding greasy hole on my eyelid for a day. It was much better the second day! It did leave a scar both times and while not pretty, it does look much better than the big lumps on my eye lids!

It left a scar? All the info, pictures & videos I've seen show it done from the inside? Or was yours more in the edge where the lashes are? Luckily, this one is below the lash line. I did have one in the lashes that healed itself but it did sort of permantly mess up the lash line.

Yes, it does look like a really simple quick procedure. Numb, flip back, cut, scoop, done. :)

I had one on the lower eyelid and it was removed from inside the eyelid, so there were no scars. It was done in the ophthalmologists' office and covered by insurance.

I've had two removed. I hated seeing the needle coming towards my eye, seeing what looked to be the world's smallest melon ball maker coming at me, and hated seeing the "gook" that was removed.

My scar is more like a white line on the inside of my eye. Haven't looked lately to see if it is still there though.

I think I'm going to look into getting it removed. First to find an opthomologist, and see if I need a referral. Next year we have to go on TRICARE, so might as well get as much taken care of while we are still on our own insurance.

Hoping its in office.
