'Chain' restaurants near Vero Beach?

Hi,

We were lucky enough at the 7mth window to secure two nights at Vero Beach over New Years, and were wondering whether there are any 'chain' restaurants very close by to Vero, so that we can go out to early dinner with our two children without driving too far?

It might sound sad, as we have heard a lot about the lovely local restaurants that are in the area, but we are from the UK and just LOVE the likes of TGI's, Denny's, Red Lobster and the Outback - all of which we don't get chance to eat at here in England.

It will be another two years before we get back to the States again, for our 'fix' of these restaurants and we want to fit in as many as possible this year. We know how to seek them out in Orlando now, but wondered if you could offer any help in pointing us in the right direction for our first Vero trip??

Hi there!!

We were at Vero (one of our home resorts) over Christmas 2009 and loved it so much. However, there is not a lot close by at all, which is part of Vero's charm, I guess. We ate one evening at Shutters, which was fab, but pricey and spent another evening there doing the Donalds Pirate Party, which was served family style and had LOADS of character interaction. My son loved it and still talks about it now.

For breakfast one day, we drove and drove trying to find a Denny's or something, but all we came across was an IHOP with huge queues, so I guess there wasn't much in that area.

If I remember rightly, we went back over the bridge onto the penninsula and through Downtown Vero Beach, heading for the local Mall (which I think is called the Indian River Mall) and found a Bob Evans along that strip, but it was a 15 minute drive from Disney's Vero Beach. I think I saw a Applebees along here, possibly a TGI's and some others, although I cannot remember the names. Don't turn left out of the hotel and drive down Ocean drive, as you will just drive and drive and there is nothing!! (Apaprt from loads of million $$$ houses!) Not sure they eat around here at all!!

Near this Indian River Mall, there are some Walmarts/Publix supermarkets, where we bought bagels and cereal for breakfast!

Handy tip - if you can find the Power Station, park in the empty car park and walk onto the small bridge at the side of it - sounds strange, but Manatees are often found here, as they like the warm water the power station creates - we saw one, although we waited half an hour! It was quite inspiring!! Any other questions - ask away!

Thanks ever so much for the great info - we will probably just eat onsite as we are only there for two days, I was just trying to juggle my dining timetable while we are in Orlando and I can't possibly fit all the yummy places we like to visit in - so in a rare flash of inspiration I thought perhaps I could fit some of them in while at Vero - but maybe not - oh well I am sure we will find new 'hidden treasures' at VB, which won't help us much for our next trip - our must do list gets longer and longer each time we go - so much food, so little time!!

Glad to help! The onsite places are good - Sonya's was only open a few evenings a week, so Shutters was the main place. The pool snack bar was really good - the children get a huge bucket and spade with fries and a sandwich in it, which went down well and their sandwiches for adults were nice too. A few doors away is a beach style supermarket, who will make up sandwiches for you - just walk out the front door, turn right and along the sidewalk a little until the corner and you will see it. There is a pizza place also, for takeaway.

I know - food is such a central part to any USA holiday. Our eating out here is so bad for general 'family' places. We often say how we would love Bob Evans and Bahama Breeze type places just to go to when out and about. What do we have? Frankie and Bennies and Little Chef!!!! Not good enough!!!

I really should get back to cooking the supper!!! Roast Turkey!!!

Actually, our favorite place is the green cabin, the bar at vero. Sit out on the balcony over looking beach and ocean. Inexpensive food that taste great. Flatbread pizza was well under 10 dollars. Appitizers are great as well. No wait and you can get a drink if u like.

I love the sausage flat bread. They have tables outside too, so you can have lunch over the ocean. We just cannot get enough of that ocean!

It's not like 5 minutes close, but there are plenty of the chain restaurants if you drive over the bridge and into Vero. There's also a big outlet mall.
