CF card reader is SLOW -- suggestions?

Hi all,

My point and shoot uses SD cards, for which my MacBook Pro has a built in reader. It is unbelievably fast to download files.

On the other hand, my DLSR uses CF cards, and my current card reader is slow as molasses. Any advice on a better CF card reader to improve speed?

Are you using an external CF reader? Is it a USB 1.0 reader or 2.0?

are the file sizes the same?

What speed are your CF cards?

I use a lot of slower cards (hey, they're cheap) and even though my reader is USB 3.0 (which is supported by my laptop) it's still slow to download because the cards are slow. My faster cards that are the same size really do download noticeably faster.

I'm currently using one that looks exactly like the one 1Grumpy9 suggested (but it was purchased at Office Max). I think it is a 2.0, but I'm not sure.

The cards may be slow, I'm not sure what speed cards they are, but I'll check. Also, the file sizes are pretty similar.

It's so blazingly fast on the built in SD card reader that it's truly amazing.

I'll check on those details.

And I know what you mean about the cheaper cards -- for my purposes, that's fine.

I highly recommend the Lexar Professional USB 3.0 dual slot reader. Even on my USB 2.0 machines, it's WICKED fast, but on my USB3 machines it's insane. A very high quality, well reviewed reader too. I got it for Christmas. I had to stop using my ~7 year old USB2.0 Lexar reader as it doesn't support SDHC.

I received the 3.0 USB PixelFlash CF card reader via Amazon, and my first impression is that it runs much more quickly than my old card reader. I haven't done any actual timed runs, but it feels faster.
