So I'm not having a DFTW, but I am having a Mickey/Minnie theme at my wedding. I'm stuck on the ceremony. We're not having a religious ceremony (so no scripture readings, etc.) But I think I would like some type of poetry or reading. Everything I read is so sappy, or boring, or way over my head, and I think I would like it Disney-related.

I thought maybe a Disney love song spoken instead of sung. Or an excerpt from a children's book (not necessarily Disney) that is sweet and simple. We're both kids at heart, and have a sense of humor, so this does NOT need to be traditional.

Any ideas? Anything unique you've done for your Disney wedding? Any other ideas for spreading pixie dusts on my guests?

We Did The Blessing Of The Hands Which Actually Ended Up Being Very Nice!!!

We Stood There And Held Hands Our Minister Read The Blessing Of The Hands (you Can Have Anyone Do The Reading) I Will Try To Find A Copy Of It For You Tomorrow When I Get Home Fr Work. It Was A Really Neat Reading....

HERE IS A COPY OF IT, I FOUND ONLINE

The Blessing of the Hands
Danielle, please face Steven, and hold his hands, palms up, so you may see the gift that they are to you. These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and vibrant with love, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as he promises to love you all the days of his life. These are the hands that will work along side yours, as together you build your future, as you laugh and cry, as you share your innermost secrets and dreams. These are the hands you will place with expectant joy against your stomach, until he too, feels his child stir within you. These are the hands that look so large and strong, yet will be so gentle as he holds your baby for the first time. These are the hands that will work long hours for you and your new family These are that hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes: tears of sorrow and tears of joy These are the hands that will comfort you in illness, and hold you when fear or grief wrack your mind. These are the hands that will tenderly lift your chin and brush your cheek as they raise your face to look into his eyes: eyes that are filled completely with his overwhelming love and desire for you. Steven, please hold Danielle’s hands, palms up, where you may see the gift that they are to you. These are the hands of your best friend, smooth, young, and carefree, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as she pledges her love and commitment to you all the days of her life. These are the hands that will hold each child in tender love, soothing them through illness and hurt, supporting and encouraging them along the way, and knowing when it is time to let go These are the hands that will massage tension from your neck and back in the evenings after you’ve both had a long hard day. These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times These are the hands that will comfort you when you are sick, or console you when you are grieving. They are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness. These are the hands that will hold you in joy and excitement and hope, each time she tells you that you are to have another child, that together you have created a new life.
These are the hands that will give you support as she encourages you to chase down your dreams. Together as a team, everything you wish for can be realized. Steven and Danielle, these are the hands that will enter the Sacrament of Matrimony. These four hands will be your armor and shield against the evils and temptations of the world. These are the hands that will reach out, first to each other, then united, will spread your love and your sacrament to all they touch. These are the hands that will ease your parents’ loneliness as you leave the nest, will first teach your own children the marvels of married life, and will be a sign to friends and strangers alike as to just how wonderful married life can be. Through these four hands, God will renew His Church. God, bless these hands that you see before you this day. May they always be held by one another. Give them the strength to hold on during the storms of stress and the dark of disillusionment. Keep them tender and gentle as they nurture each other in their wondrous love. Help these hands to continue building a relationship founded in your grace, rich in caring, and devoted in reaching for your perfection. May Steven and Danielle see their four hands as healer, protector, shelter, and guide. We ask this in your name, Amen.

I thought that was beautiful. Of course, we'd have to revise the religious part, and my fiance would hate if we actually used the word "blessing". But I think it's a really good idea. My uncle is performing the ceremony, so I'm going to talk about it with him. Thanks.

Okay, while I've been sitting here thinking and brainstorming, I was looking over lyrics. And it reminded me that most of the Disney classics don't have long elaborate songs, and the poems are not necessarily appropriate for a wedding. But there were phrases and/or verses that I came across that I liked. So then I printed them out and highlighted the parts I like. I'm thinking that I can make a poem out of these snippets, and then surprise my fiance by reciting it before the vows. Here's what I have: (let me know if you have any ideas regarding the poem)

So This is Love- Cinderella
"So this is love, so this is what makes life divine"

Love- Robin Hood
"Once we watched the lazy world go by, Now the days seem to fly, Life is brief, but when it's gone, Love goes on and on.
Love will live, Love will last, Love goes on and on."

Best Friends- Fox and the Hound
"When you're the best of friends, Having so much fun together"
"They can't understand your magic wonderland"
"When you're the best of friends, Sharing all that you discover"

Part of Your World- Little Mermaid
"What would I give, To live where you are? What would I pay, To stay here beside you? What would I do to see you smiling at me?"
"And I could be, Part of your world"

Beauty and the Beast
"Tale as old as time, True as it can be, Barely even friends, Then somebody bends, Unexpectedly. Just a little change, Small to say the least, Both a little scared, Neither one prepared"
"Tale as old as as time, Tune as old as song, Bittersweet and strange, Finding you can change, Learning you were wrong, Certain as the sun, Rising in the east"

A Whole New World- Aladdin
"I'm like a shooting start, I've come so far, I can't go back to where I used to be, A whole new world, Every turn a surprise, With new horizons to pursue"
"A whole new world, That's where we'll be, A wondrous place, For you and me"

Can You Feel the Love Tonight?- The Lion King
"Can you feel the love tonight? The peace the evening brings, The world, for once, in perfect harmony, With all its living things"
"Can you feel the love tonight? You needn't look too far, Stealing through the night's uncertainties, Love is where they are"

If I Never Knew You- Pocahantas
"If I never knew you, If I never felt this love, I would have no inkling of, How precious life can be. And if I never held you, I would never have a clue, How at last I'd find in you, The missing part of me."

I know it's random, but some pieces might fit together.

There is the sweetest children's book entitled "You are my I Love You" (written by Maryann K. Cusimano). This very lovely book is suppose to be about a child and parent, but the universal theme is unconditional love. I heard it once recited at a wedding, and it just left me overwhelmed with its message. I bought it for my husband for our anniversary. Here are the words:

I am your parent, you are my child. (would obviously need to be changed)
I am your quiet place, you are my wild.

I am your calm face, you are my giggle.
I am your wait, you are my wiggle.

I am your carriage ride, you are my king.
I am your push, you are my swing.

I am your audience, you are my clown.
I am your London Bridge, you are my falling down.

I am your carrot sticks, you are my licorice.
I am your dandelion, you are my first wish.

I am your water wings, you are my deep.
I am your open arms, you are my running leap.

I am your way home, you are my new path.
I am your dry towel, you are my wet bath.

I am your dinner, you are my chocolate cake.
I am your bedtime, you are my wide awake.

I am your finish line, you are my race.
I am your praying hands, you are my saying grace.

I am your faovorite book, you are my new lines.
I am your night-light, you are my starshine.

I am your lullaby, you are my peek-a-boo.
I am your goodnight kiss, you are my I love you.
