Central AC Temp?

I live in SWF and we keep the AC on 77 during the day, and 74 at night (during the summer).

A/C - 78 (and usually turn off at night and open the windows)
Heat - 65/66

We would love to turn the heat down at night. Unfortunately, with a heat pump system if you bump the Temp up in the morning the emergency heat strips turn on negating and savings from the lower temp overnight.

Anyone know of a solution to this? An intelligent thermostat?

The electric company we use has a summer program called SmartHours, which helps users save money during peak pricing times, which is 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays. During those hours, we keep the AC set at 82. But all other times, it's set for 74.

During the winter, we keep the heat at 68 and just wear socks and use blankets if we get cold.

My wife gets cold super easy. To her, 78 degrees with the ceiling fans on is too cold. So we'll be sitting there watching TV and she's wrapped up like a burrito and I'm thinking, "man, it could be a little cooler in here..."

We like ours cooler than most - 71 in summer and 63 in winter. I can't ever have the windows open (DH has horrible allergies) and we live in a very hot climate so at least I'm comfortable!

We keep our house 68 year round. I cannot sleep in any temp over 70.

We've had several days with temps at 110 already and July has barely started.

The system runs almost non stop to keep it at 78. I do turn it down to 76 to sleep but I bump it back to 78 as soon as I get up in the morning.

In the summer, we run our AC at 77/78 all the time, I rarely touch the thermostat.

In the winter (if that's what you call it in Florida) I try to keep it between 68-70 but most of the time it's completely off .... also my favorite time of the year!! last year during these few "Winter months" I had an electric bill of $50 .....

We're in Ohio and have our air conditioner on from early spring to fall. My husband is allergic to practically everything that grows, so no open windows for us. (Sigh).

We usually keep the a/c around 72. If it gets really hot outside, I'll bump it up to 75 to conserve a little bit of energy.

we have ours set at 75, but its been so hot here I have bumped it down to 74 a couple of times, and even as low as 72 when I just wanted to feel cold for a bit! Dh is fine, usually doesn't mess with the thermostats, but also tends to run warmer than me so if I bump it down, he definitely doesn't complain.

74 during the summer and 62 in the winter. We don't touch the thermostats, either- no turning it up during the day, down at night.

NC here. 78 in summer. 68 in winter.

Duke Power puts out a letter that tells us how we are doing compared to similar size houses (built around the same year) in our area. The graph they use also puts in a line for what is considered economical. We fall well below the other houses like ours (by half) and even under the economy line.

We have had temps in the 100's also. Almost every day the outside temps are in the 90's. I keep my central air set at 80/82 during the day and 77 at night. I have ceiling fans in all rooms. I also wear only a very loose, light dress to stay cool. My electric bill is still too high!

In the winter, I heat to 65 during the day and turn off the heat at night.

Summer-74-75 during day, try to turn off in evenings as we sleep on lower level and it's cold down there. Winter- 68 during day when we're at school and work, 70-72 in evening.

I have a 2 story townhouse, I have it at 78 in the summer. My bedroom is on the first floor and it is usually fine at that temp. The upstairs gets warm but I use a ceiling fan if I go upstairs to watch TV (my big screen is in the loft). In the winter I keep the heat at 70.

78 during the hours we are home; 82 when we're not. Occasionally I'll bumpt it down to 76 if I'm really hot though. Our house is kind of dark because we have a lot of trees on property which block out most sunlight. Sometimes I really hate that, but it does help keep the house cool in summer!

It's been hotter than Hades here in Southern New Jersey as well. We keep the A/C set to 78 and it really feels good.

Deep south here. Our AC stays at 72-74 during the day and 68-70 at night. I can't stand being hot at night. I also have a fan in my room.
