Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any luck using their cellphones while on the cruise? Maybe while you were in ports? If so, who was your carrier?

Thanks,

Cingular has service in Key West (I think all carriers work there), San Juan and St. Thomas for sure. Calls from those locations are part of the Cingular Nation plan and are charged as part of your minutes.

For all carriers, check with your provider about service and charges in Non-US ports since long distance and/or roaming charges can be different between carriers and can be high. San Juan and St. Thomas usually count as US ports.

I have readt that AT&T also works in St. Thomas. I'd expect a lot do as they are a US virgin island. Also remember Key West is part of the US, even though it does seem so removed. Also been some reports of service on CC.

Some of these newer phones can pick up better, but once the ship is out on the ocean, there will really be no cell service to speak of unless you have a sattelite phone.

You're best looking up the website for your cell provider, they will have the most up to dat info.

I'm personally of the put it in a drawer and not look at it again till we return to port kind of person.

I just give people back home the number to call the ship, if some emergency happens back at home.

I have nextel and i got NO SERVICE anywhere on the Eastern...not even in port. My brother has Verizon and he got service in ports and even on the ship from Castaway Cay back to Florida.......I was jealous lol.

I used my Sprint phone on the ship at the port, but I didn't try it out at sea.

I have Verizon. It didn't work in Nassau, but it worked on our day at sea before returning to Port Canaveral. I think it depends on how close the captain brings you to land when you're near Florida.

Verizon Wireless worked in St. Thomas, didn't try in St. Maarten. not an expensive call either when DW called home for 32 minutes.

(when she called ship to shore...different story:earseek: _

It all depends on your provider and phone type. I have an international GSM phone with AT&T home service. I did not have service in Freeport, however I had service in Ocho Rios, George Town, and Cozumel.

YMMV

Nextel had no service after about 3 hours at sea........nothing at any stop on our Eastern sailing.

Have both Nextel and Cingular the Nextel phone will not work on the eastern, western or Bahama cruises except at Key West.

The Cingular phone has worked at all the stops on the eastern but not the western and on the last cruise 4 day Bahamas it even worked at CC.
